And the coaching carousel starts early this year with him and Bunting.

Michigan State is a much better job than UNC for Kragthorpe.

Scott D
11/1/2006, 01:58 PM
Kragthorpe would be better off staying at Tulsa.

I'd be shocked if they don't offer the job to Mariucci first.

Scott D

It wouldn't surprize me if Izzo had that much pull. However, I'm not sure Mariucci would take a college job, especially with his cushy gig on the NFL Network ;)

Maybe Stoops would like to try his luck in the Big Ten.... ;)

that's a real slap in the face.

I wonder if this would've happened if they'd just held on and beaten the Domers.

I think it would have because they were about ready to can him last year and they beat Notre Dame. I think MSU is tired of losing to the Illinois and Indiana's of the world, which they did plenty with John L.

I can see him updating his resume now:

- Led team to greatest comeback victory in Div 1-A history.

During interview

"So coach, how'd you blow a 16 point lead to Notre Dame at home??"

<sigh>

that's because like most aggies they don't realize their set in life is to just be the little brother that can occasionally play decent, but not really ever be a major major threat.

That's what happens when you lose by 25 to Indiana.

Teddy Ruxpin will be the new Hc. It's a lock.

I'd listen to that morning show tomorrow morning, but I'll be in a pharmacy. I'm sure that guy will have more than a few gems.

Nebraska's an Ag school and has done just fine for itself.

Scott D

so Nebraska was at one time known as Nebraska A&T or A&M?

Michigan State was once The University of Michigan A&T.

Nebraska is a land-grant institution whose first mission is Ag research. We put that motto on our doors over on east campus at CASNR. Penn State's done okay for themselves too.

Penn's a private school. It's like if Tulsa would have named itself after the state instead.

Attractive about MSU:
Plenty of $ to spend (see J.L.'s deal and buy-out)
Large fan/support base (huge revenues with barely mediocre football for decades)
Decent recruiting potential (Detroit, Flint, Saginaw) in state. Regionally, Ohio, Illinois and Western PA produce tremendous talent every year.
Good facilities: Basketball's are more impressive, but football still above avg. for big ten
Chance to be a legend: following the garbage that MSU has produced on the field, it wouldn't take much.

What Blows about the job:
Needing top talent to turn down ND, Oh. St., U-M, and Penn St to sign with you
Horrible administration including lame duck AD. The year after Saban went 10-1, half of board of trustees wanted him out. That says a lot.

Should be interesting. Some up here are throwing Chizik's name around. I can't see any way in hell that he'd leave the south to come here. I assume he'll have plenty of better options when ready to leave UT. Tenuta (sp?) from GA Tech is apparently more likely.

Maybe, it's kinda hard to get respect in the Pac 10, with USC and all...

Yep -I really believe that game killed him. Not even the "greatest comeback evar" vs the NW Mildcats could save him after that crashing humiliation

Spartan(Sooner at Heart),

I have to (tenatively) disagree with you about MSU's facilities being above average for the Big XII. The stadium is average, and from what I hear, the indoor facility and weightroom are on par with the MAC schools in Michigan. I don't have first hand knowledge of their indoor facilities, though.

I used to think Michigan St. was a job on par with aTm, but now I tend to think it's comprable to TTU. MSU hasn't really had much sucess since the 60s. I think one of their big advantages in their glory days was that they were among the first programs to throw off the white robes and pointy hats and recruit black players. That advantage is now gone, unless Adolf Rupp is hired as U of M's next AD.

Nope, that was the momentum swing in the season and they folded. That is their tradition, much like the Texas Longhorns until the last 2 years when OU has been down.

A guy over on our board is claiming that Coach Carrot is a top candidate for the job; I don't believe for a minute MSU could be that stupid but then again we were.
