View Full Version : My annual "Let's just go to one time zone for the whole world" thread

On account of the clocks changing, I am obliged to resurrect my recommendation that I make each year at this time (and in the spring time). Think about it, one time zone for the entire world. No more news reports that state "At 6 am Istanbul time, an explosion occurred near a night club..." No more "What time zone are you in?" No more "Now is Arizona in Mountain or Pacific?". No more "Is the call at 9 am central or eastern?".

But then how would news rooms look cool with all the clocks on the wall? And what about spy movies?! They need clocks on the wall damnit! Are you trying to ruin our fun? HUH?!

The nonsense is that we have multiple time zones.

Dude, how am I supposed to challenge my nemesis to a gun fight at "high 2 a.m."?

no.

Lunch should be around noon no matter where you live.

It's that simple.

What does that have to do with it? Why not 48 time zones instead of 24? The time zones just make for convienence, not for a purpose. Shift your paradigm.

Then explain why we have brunch? And why is there no Linner or Lupper? And why is Supper around 6pm in some places, yet in NY as well as places in Europe it isn't until 7:30 or 8 or 9?

It's about lunch.

Don't confuse the topic with ghey mealtimes.

Yep. In aviation, everybody uses Zulu time except pilots.

You would be surprised how many pilots use local time.
