Accidentally posted in foosball forum, I can only hope the response is as good over here  :
I see you can pre-order and they'll be released in mid-November. There's a $499 20GB and a $599 60GB(?). Anyone have a good link as to the whole differences between these 2 and why I'd need one over the other?

More memory with the 60GB one?

I'm sure there are more bells and whistles, maybe a <gasp> second controller! heh

Well, $100 for an extra 40gb might be a good idea no matter what. The games are going to support a lot of persistent storage.

Make sure you hook the system up to an HDTV.

I seem to remember that Sony wanted it to be a "central" gaming/internet/dishwasher/walkthedog unit. I already have a wireless network/3-4 computers/etc so I wanted to make sure that, beyond the larger HD, it wasn't a bunch of features I don't need or want.

I'd be really nervous about buying one of the first units to ship.

I wouldn't be surprised to see quality control problems, especially with the optical drives.

This would be a rare instance where I would get Best Buy's protection plan. :O

it looks like the $600 one has a memory card reader, built in wifi and those are the only difference besides the larger hd

they are already going for $1500 plus on ebay. I'm gonna try to grab a few and sell them on ebay to put in the hdtv fund linkage (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/PlayStation-3/sem/rpsm/catOid/-16622/N/20012841+20016481+20016622/link/ref/rpem/ccd/categorySpecial.do)

Memory card reader as in "to play games" or "to upload pictures/songs"? Again, Sony, most of us have a computer or 3. I assume the HD serves the purpose of memory for game play, so except for the larger HD, you get stuff you probably already have.

Good luck finding a place that will still reserve one.

I would imagine to upload pictures, songs, saved games, etc
