I know 2 people that have had this procedure done and I must say that their success has been awesome to watch.....but one of them does seem to be a bit skeletal.....while the other has dropped down to a trim weight and holding.

I always thought this procedure was a bunch of hooey, since I didn't know anyone that had had it done, but apparently it is an effective weight loss procedure for the severely overweight or those that just can't seem to drop the weight on their own.

I'm not sure it's a great idea. It has a huge mortality rate. I guess you have to weigh the health risks of morbid obesity versus the complication rate.

I know a woman who had it, dropped 120lbs in a year, then put 90 back on.

Yeah, I think if I remember correctly that one in 50 people die soon after this surgery is performed.

Only folks I've known with it were >12 months after and still HUGE people.

I think Meth is more effective

Have an uncle that did it. He lost almost 200 lbs and looks like a totally different person. Two years later and he almost seems too skinny.

I currently work with two people - one male, one female, who had it done. And I knew them both when they were ahem...living large, so to speak.

The guy is in his 50's, and actually had a heart attack before he had the surgery done. The girl is around 35 or so. When I first knew her, she was probably 22 and went about 3 and a half bills. Now, she is slim, attractive, and devoid of any of that "elephant man" skin that hangs around when someone loses a lot of weight.

Good for them.

I've known several success stories, one serious complication and two deaths.

I have a doc that does over 800 a year. Pretty amazing stuff. I have gotten to watch part of the surgery and it is just fascinating to watch them work.

Wow! 800 a year!

And that's one doc! This is way more popular than I realized.

I know it's risky, but what surgery isn't?

I think it's nice for people that have gotten so overweight that they no longer see light in the tunnel......this gives them some hope.

Yep he's a hot shot for sure. He has really great results.

One of the ladies that I know that has had this procedure had her surgery in Norman. I believe the doctors last name was Keith???

Is that the doc you are referring to?

800 a year is nearly 3 a day with any kind of vacation time.

Sounds a little iffy to me.

Nope my doc is not in Norman.

SAS think what you like, I built his pack for him I think I should know exactly how many he uses a year. They also don't rip you open like they use to, which takes much less time so they can do more a day.

There was a gastric bypass craze going on at my previous job. Out of 30 people that I worked with, 5 people had it done. It was madness. A couple needed it, but most didn't. Most weren't THAT overweight and could've got the weight off with exercise and dieting. Lazy mofos. None of them died though and all have lost a lot of wieght. One looked skeletal, and kinda gross.

You need to talk to Homey. He has done alot of research on this subject for his law school class.

I wouldn't do it unless I were morbidly obese and the risks of doing it out-weighed the risk of not doing it.

Oh, I don't need the surgery, Jerk. I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I think they'd frown on this type of surgery for 10 lbs. :D

I was just bringing up the procedure to see what others thought of it and if they knew people that actually had had it done.

I know of two. Both success, sort of.

One of them was a girl who had been overweight all her life. After she finally got thin she went all party animal and liked the sexytime. Now, she has a nice illegitemate baby. Baby's daddy is not around anymore.
