View Full Version : So I'm finally around to watching Lost.

I didn't want to go into the main thread, 'cause that way there be spoilers.

Netflix is great for catching up on shows, I've decided.

Does this show ever go anywhere? I've watched most of Season 1-like all but three episodes-and it looks like they just run around in circles a lot. Every so often a crazy French woman shows up.

Well shot and the dialog is well-written and delivered, but does this come to a point sometime soon?

Froz, I'm here to tell you something: the show goes NOWHERE.

My wife watches it, and I think it's the cheapest way to garner an audience--interesting and random suspense that never resolves. Just when you think something is going to be clarified, you are left disappointed.

Good call using Netflix. And good luck with the whole 'getting somewhere on Lost thing'.

froz - this is not your typical show.....as crawfish said in the official thread, this show requires some committment, much like a novel....its deeper than anything i've ever watched.....they spend alot of time on character development

its not a fedex (overnite answer) show

Frozen Sooner
10/29/2006, 06:33 PM
Oh, I'm watching. Like I said, I'm enjoying the dialog and the cinematography, and that's enough for the film fan in me to keep going.

I was just wondering if it was just a character pastiche or there was a real plot underneath everything.

And hey: A-hole science teacher got himself blowed the **** up!

there's a ton of subtleties in this show...characters will weave in and out of each others life without knowing it.....you really have to pay attention to detail on the back stories.....be good at remembering/recognizing faces

there is a plot - its survival! getting off the island

Frozen Sooner
10/29/2006, 06:44 PM
See, I don't think the survival/getting off the island aspect has been played up enough. It seems like once they figured out they could kill a pig or two and could eat the fruit (with the exception of Hurley's colon blow) survival wasn't really a big deal.

I'm still not sure that anything will ever get answered, although i still like the show; you just have to accept it and keep watchin'. :pop:

Hey, froz...You've got some Arnzt on you!

Lost rocks. It is methodical...lots of character development and backgrounding, slow to reveal plot points. The show has redefined itself each season. Part of the fun is the discussion inbetween each show.

It's really like a novel being presented as a TV show over multiple seasons. It is one story...each episode is a chapter, or part of a chapter. It's the same way in season 3. Watching the DVD's is nice in that you can consume the episodes quickly, but you lose some because there's no analyzing of each episode as you wait for the next one.

Glad to have you on board...hope you stick around!

Frozen Sooner
10/29/2006, 10:54 PM
Yeah, I'm in. Season 2 is now in the NetFlix queue. Though I don't know if I want to wait that long. I may head over to BestBuy and go ahead and get Season 2.

Captain Disposable Income strikes again!

I just went out on glare ice after the first major snowfall of the year at 7pm to buy a season of a TV show I already have in my NetFlix queue.

Why is it that people lose their damn minds when the first snowfall hits? Seriously, people. It's snow. We drive on this stuff every year at about this time.

Oh man, you are gonna get ****ed when you get caught up and have to wait between episodes. Especially when ABC doesn't show it for 8 weeks for no apparent reason.

Frozen Sooner
10/29/2006, 11:22 PM
Yeah, patience isn't my strong suit.

What's kind of nice is that the show is shot in 720p, then downconverted to 480p for TV. When my HD-A1 upconverts it to 720p, it looks better than most TV DVDs.

What's sucky is that ABC isn't in HD up here, and since ABC=Disney=Blu-Ray board member, no Lost HD-DVDs for the forseeable future.

OK, so now we're getting somewhere. We're in the bunker. We're watching some film footage. The computer is blown up.

Frozen Sooner

Grrr.

So Kate sets her house on fire after putting the insurance policy in her mom's name.

Mom doesn't have an insurable interest in the property. The beneficiary of an insurance policy must have an insurable interest in the subject of the insurance. That's why you can't take a life insurance policy out on some random person-without an insurable interest in them, they're worth more dead than alive to you.

Tough to stop when I'm soooo close. :)

I've got seasons 8 and 9 queued. It's already going downhill somewhat, so I don't have great expectations for the rest. I just wanna be caught up when the TV-movies come out next year.

Frozen Sooner

You know what? If I was Hurley and Sawyer called me Jabba, I would feed him to the Sarlac.

And by "feed him to the Sarlac" I mean "Beat him over his head with that chicken he's roasting."

Now how the heck does a baby get out in the water? That's gotta be a hallucination.

That's real nice symbolism they've got going there, though. A kid named "Aaron" in a reed basket out on the water.

Whoa, Charlie just freaked the f out and hallucinated a painting?
