I have not seen any of these. Are they any good?

Devil's Rejects
House Of A 1000 Corpses
The Ring
The Grudge
High Tension
Wrong Turn

What about all the "Dead" remakes?

Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
Etc.....

Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes?

What else would you recommend that was made after say 1995?

I did see some clips for one flick that people were talking about back in 2001. It started a lot of controversy when it was released over seas. I'm not sure I could sit through the whole thing.

It's called "Ichi The Killer" - Do not Youtube this unless you have a strong stomach. Pretty gory.

Devil's Rejects- very disturbing, not spooky scary, just scary what human filth can do.

The Ring- not bad, a little hokie some times, some "make you jump" scenes

Dont bother with any Texas Chainsaw remakes, the original is the only way to go

Agreed on the TCM...only the original, although Im interested to see what the newest one (the beginning) is like...looks pretty good.

House of 1000 corpses seemed like a rip off of every horror film ever made to me....

I could not make it through the Grudge...even with SMG in it.

The Ring is pretty good, not too scary though

Wrong Turn is as bad as they come but it has Eliza Dushku...so there is that

HIgh Tension I started but the wife made me stop it...it started as a combo of soft core pr0n and really gory stuff...I was interested but the wife was not. If you watch this, let me know what you thought, I might rent it again when the wife is out of town.

Dawn of the Dead is one of my favorites. and the remake was pretty good IMO

as for stuff not listed, me and a buddy watched Hostel and laughed our butts off, but we were really drunk too so....it is pretty gory though

Shaun of the Dead is good and funny.

28 Days Later was pretty good I thought

I loved the Devil's Rejects. It was made on a very cheap budget and is directed great. Rob Zombie did a complete 180 from House of 1000 Corpses. The movie is not predictable and the ending is bad @ss!

after 1995? That cuts out Evil Dead 1 and 2 AND Army of Darkness!

Anybody have any suggestions for scary movies that AREN'T overly gory and aren't from the 40's? Something my 11-year-old could watch? Along the lines of Poltergeist, Sixth Sense, etc.

Awesome, I was thinking of this flick, too. I remember seeing it on HBO back in the early '80s. Scared the crap out of me.

I don't remember a ton about it, so I went and read about it on IMDB, and people were really talking it up as a good ghost story that was scary without resorting to a bunch of gore and violence.

Heh. I actually thought Army of Darkness would be a good choice. It's technically an R rating, but that was 15 years ago - it'd get a PG-13 at most now. There's very little swearing (a couple of "yo, she-bitch!" lines and a s*** in there somewhere) and the gore is totally hokey-looking now.

Mood slime?

Seriously, you're gonna say there's "nothing wrong" with a movie that has MOOD SLIME as a key plot point? :D

Heh, the gore was totally hokey-looking back then. It's one of the many reasons why I love the Evil Dead series. :D

I took it in the same vein as the rest of the movie...NOT SERIOUSLY.

Beats the heck out of the Naked Gun and Airplane! sequels...

13 Ghosts-have not seen it

Darkness Falls-kinda hokey, but decent

Joy Ride-seen better, sorta funny

Wolf Creek -see 13 Ghosts

Emily Rose-same as above

Ghost Ship-not for 11yr olds, lots of "high tension" especially the beginning...heh.

Final Destination-nice pick, lottery boy scene was pretty funny to watch.

I cannot remember the name of the series, or if it's even on DVD, but the recent TNT Steven King stories was pretty good.

Yep, that's it. pretty good stories, what with the alternate reality story with the couple(or is it dimension)and the one with Henry Thomas where everyone is nice to one another...that was pretty freaky.
