Like I'm doing now sitting in the parking lot of a hotel near my house.

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Just like turning on the radio and listening it or receiving TV signals via antennae. Is this wrong?

More like using your neighbors hose to water your garden.

Dude, you are sitting in a hotel parking lot near your HOUSE.

It ain't the wireless thing that's wrong.

If stealing wireless innerweb signals is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

not really because it doesn't cost anyone extra $ for me to use it whereas if I use the neighbor's water he has to pay for my usage.

if there isn't a password to protect the signal, it isn't your fault

I don't get it? ;) I don't have the innerwebs at home and my cingular air card thing hasn't come in yet and I needed to email some stuff to my boss so I stopped at the local hotel thinking they would have wireless and schzaam, they do. :D

If they don't have WEP enabled they want you to steal the signal. It's man-law.

It's getting hot, I'm gonna start the truck and turn the AC on.

Also, I spent $1288 and change at this chain (or one like it ;) ) when I was in McAlester I think they can spot me some free innerwebs.

Are you wearing a tie-dye? That would make crazy man sitting in car looking at pron on his laptop even creepier.

if you have a wireless router and a some rudimentary coding skills, you can really have fun with people that try to steal your wireless...

like by giving them the upside-down-ternet (http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pete/upside-down-ternet.html)

also, if you are pre-disposed towards evilness, you can wreak havoc with people that steal your wireless....like stealing their passwords, bank acct numbers...etc.

Yeah, the analogy isn't perfect, but the fact is you're using the bandwidth, the person that paid for it can't. Not too big a deal when they aren't using it I guess, but how do you know when they're using it?

I went home to recharge the battery and to get some stuff done but I'm back. The creepiness factor is off the scale now as I have my interior light on to see the keyboard.

meh, if he's surfing and not using Limewire or something, i doubt it's going to be a performance hit

i'd say it's only slightly shady, and well within the "Yermom Ethical Scale" :D

but see. it's at a hotel. No way everyone staying here is using the bandwidth they are being charged for so I'm just using that nice old lady's bandwidth allotment who is staying in 345. ;)

you should get a dc converter for your truck so that you can surf and charge your battery at the same time.

I have a neighbor named Cyndy who is going to be very ****ed when the RIAA comes knocking (but they probably will compliment her on her excellent taste in music in the legal documents)

Sometimes I had to elevate my laptop to get a decent signal.

Nope......and when the drunk 'tard fell down his steps and broke his leg, I didn't even offer to take down his Christmas lights.

I kinda wished I had, but not bad enough to get up.

My neighbor and I are on different ISPs. When mine goes down, I use his connection. When his goes down, he uses mine. Both of our networks are secure, though-we just have logons and passwords.

I mean, I guess he could be downloading massive amounts off my account, but I can check activity through my router and haven't seen it.

I have a cheap *** friend, seriously off the scale cheap, who used to drive around Waco in his truck trying to pick up a wireless signal so he could pull into the parking lot and check his e-mail.
