that one of the greatest World Series games ever played took place. One, unfortunately, that is forever remembered by one man's gaffe.
Yep, the Bill Buckner game. Game 6, Red Sox-Mets.
But to this day, I still believe that Bill Buckner did not cost the Red Sox the World Series, as many people (including Red Sox fans) would have you believe. The Red Sox couldn't hold down a two-run lead with two outs in the 10th. Calvin Schiraldi (ex-Horn), Bob Stanley and Rich Gedman were as much to blame for the Sox losing Game 6 as Billy Buck, who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And people forget that there was still a Game 7 left to play. And the Red Sox led by three runs and couldn't close the deal.
So, 20 years later, how could any of that still be blamed on Bill Buckner?

It makes about as much sense as blaming Tim Wakefield for the Game 7 loss in 2003 in the ALCS.

That's another thing. How come people weren't as hard on Wakefield for giving up the walk-off to Aaron Boone as they were on Buckner? Doubtful we'll see stories about Wakefield moving to Montana or somewhere remote because he wanted to get as far away as possible from the detractors.
