The No. 7-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club continued to impress at the ACHA D1 Showcase in Youngstown, Ohio with hard-fought 2-0 win over No. 8 Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon. The Sooners got on the board with a power play tally by Adrian Borchgrevink at 18:57 of the first period to give OU a 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Sooners weathered a Lindenwood offensive storm in the first ten minutes without giving up a goal. At the 15:47 mark, Jordan Novak slammed the puck into the Lindenwood net on the power play to increase OU’s lead to 2-0. The third period was like a heavyweight fight with loads of back and forth action between the two clubs. While already on the power play, Lindenwood pulled their goaltender with a minute to go to give them a 2 man advantage but the Sooners defense held true for the duration of the game, to make today’s final 2-0.
Sooners goaltender Aaron Schmeilski confirmed that yesterday’s performance was no fluke, stopping all 33 Lindenwood shots. Lions goalie Grahame Lippert stopped 24 of 26 Oklahoma shots. OU’s power play was 2 for 7 on the day while Lindenwood was 0 for 8 on the power play.
The Sooners improve to 8-0-0 on the season while Lindenwood is now 5-3-0. Oklahoma remains at the 2006 ACHA D1 Showcase in Youngstown, Ohio for a game against Scranton at 9:00 A.M. EDT tomorrow morning before heading home to Oklahoma.
