SETTING THE STAGE: The Sooners and Icers meet for the first time ever in today’s game at the ACHA D1 Showcase…Oklahoma is one of sixteen teams appearing at the 2006 ACHA D1 Showcase…Other teams playing at the Showcase are Penn State, Ohio, Lindenwood, Minot State, North Dakota State, West Virginia, Duquesne, Western Michigan, Arizona, Mercyhurst, Scranton, Michigan-Dearborn, Kent State, Weber State and West Chester…Oklahoma is ranked 7th in the most recent ACHA D1 coaches poll…Penn State is currently ranked 3rd in the same poll…The Ice Zone has both an Olympic-sized rink, meaning that the ice rink is 200 feet x 100 feet, and an NHL-sized rink which is 200 feet x 85 feet…Today’s game will be on the NHL rink at the Ice Zone.

OKLAHOMA NOTES: The Sooners arrived in Youngstown on Thursday afternoon and had a light practice Thursday evening to shake the “bus legs” out and prepare for this weekend…Sooners forward Adrian Borchgrevink leads OU in goals with 11, followed by forward Kevin Kennedy who has 7 on the season…Borchgrevink also leads the Sooners in points with 17, followed by defenseman Trey Snow and forward Owen Brewer who each have 13 points so far…The Sooners power play has been potent, scoring 28 goals with the man advantage for a 34.56% success rate this season…Against D1 teams, the Sooners power play is clicking at a 31.81% with 7 goals in 22 opportunities…The other side of special teams is also working well for the Sooners as they have killed off 52 of 54 opponent power plays for a 96.29% success rate…Against D1 teams, the OU penalty kill is 15 of 16 for a 93.75%...Oklahoma has a 32-12-3 all-time record in games played on Friday night and a 1-0-0 record in the one Friday game the Sooners have played at a neutral site.

PENN STATE NOTES: The Icers have played in the last nine ACHA D1 championship games, winning five of them…This season, Penn State has beaten Washington & Jefferson (4-3), Scranton (4-2) and Navy (6-3) and lost to NCAA D1 Robert Morris 6-0…The Icers are led by First Team All-American Defenseman Keith Jordan, Second Team All-American forwards Lukas DeLorenzo and Michael McMullen and senior goaltender Chris Matteo...DeLorenzo was also last season’s ACHA D1 Rookie of the Year…DeLorenzo, Jordan and forward Frank Barry were recently named to the 2007 U.S. University Select Team which will compete in the Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy in January…DeLorenzo leads the Icers in points this season with 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 total points…Matteo’s record in net this season is 2-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .868 save percentage…After the Sooners, Penn State will also play Minot State and Weber State at the Showcase.
