OK - got these in an e-mail. They look authentic. Would the ISS have been conveniently over FL when the shuttle lauched a few weeks ago?

If not, someone did hell of a job farking these babies....

ISS? Dude, those pics ain't taken from anywhere near orbital altitude I'm thinking. Well near, but not all the way.

165 Miles up?

I dunno - I've never been that high up.

If the pic is authentic, it's taken from something on the edge of space.

Where do you see 165 miles up?

That doesn't look nearly high enough for ISS. I bet those were taken from a NASA chase plane or something.

Where do you see 165 miles up?

there's this little space sign just to the right, that says
Florida 165

You could see it if you had a wide screen monitor.

Are you sure that wasn't taken during the last hour of a "whole pig" tailgate?

Judging by how the high cirrus clouds in the far background of the picture appear to be at the same height, I'd say those were more likely taken at an altitude between 45-50,000 feet. At those altitudes you can just barely detect the curvature of the Earth and begin to see the sky darken. What looks farked is the amount of darkness for a mid-day photo (By looking at the shadows of the clouds closer to the surface).

I can verify the photos.

I have been to space.

51 times.

Each time more terrifying than the last.

I don't think it's fake, it's just not from space.

i don't know how big a trail the shuttle leaves because i've never seen a launch or footage of one as it goes higher, but to me the trail looks out of proportion for how high that shuttle must be...

but i dont' know anything
