Fractured leg.

Edit. Thought I'd change the first post for those just tuning in . . . it's a stress fracture.

I posted something about this in the Sponsors forum, but it seems to be getting out. Multiple people are hearing the same thing. No one knows how long he will be out, or if he will be out at all, or how bad it is.. Again, this isn't confirmed, and I pray it's a rumor, but more than one person are all hearing the same thing.

OKLAHOMA - *Safety Reggie Smith (10/17, knee) is questionable for Saturday's game against Colorado.

Hmm, beats me, doesn't sound like a fractured leg though.

Either Carter or a combo of Harris/Clayton would be my guess. I would like to see Clayton get the rep time.

Sophomore safety Reggie Smith underwent an MRI on his left knee Monday, but OU coach Bob Stoops expects him to play Saturday against Colorado.

“We’ve looked and believe it’s something that should heal up fairly soon,” Stoops said.

Smith was on crutches Monday, but he’s expected to return to practice Wednesday.

This isn’t the first week Smith has been held out of practice. He missed two leading up to the Texas game with an infection in his left leg.

Ahem...you can all stop panicking. Thank you.

Bob's press conference...on Tuesday. Obviously, things seemed to have changed. Or it was being hidden as to not give Colorado extra days to prepare for a noob in the secondary.

He definately wasn't playing like the old him the other day. You can tell that really well when the kicker starts making a point to be sure the ball gets to him instead of iglesias

Heh, sorry . . . it's just something you gotta' pick up along the way.

(Second hand) According to one of the trainers, it's "just" a stress fracture of the fibula. The coaches are going to see what he can do in practice today and are still hopeful that he may play this weekend.

I bet he had this thing Saturday. He wasn't the same Reggie returning punts.

It only affects cutting ability and bears about 10% of the body weight.

Reggie has a stress fracture in his leg. Painful, but he could play with it. Rocky Calmus played several games with a stress fracture in 2000.

10/19/2006, 06:22 PM
Your fibula is not your weight-bearing bone, so even a decent fracture can be walked on. It may hurt and cause problems with changing directions. Ask Rocky about that.

On the other hand, when Bob says "bruised leg", I worry he means "dead human body". I hope Reggie's ok.

Oh, and those effing horsepigs need to die in a big way.

It is a stress fracture not a fracture. I had stress fractures in both of my legs. Running in the Corps will do that to you. It does hurt but you can still walk on it. I still ran when I had a small stress fracture in my ankle.

Teenagers play competitive soccer with stress fractures all the time. Very common. Usually some ibuprofen before the game and ice on the legs after the game.

On Tuesday I was up on campus visiting some friends. At around 11:30 I saw him leaving Dale Hall. He had crutches but he was only using them about every 5 steps or so. I don't think he will probably be able to play effectively this weekend, but will probably be back to 100% a week or two after this Saturday.

Got a Stoopsonary?

He only missed practice because of a slightly bruised knee.

[subtitle] His leg developed some kind of blood clot from an impact injury and the doctors will amputate on Friday. [subtitle]

Good news is, he'll still be running all over OSU in a few weeks ;)...

To recap:

Reggie is walking fine, has a fractured leg, has a bruised knee, and/or (maybe) a slight tear in the meniscus (unless that was referring to another post).

I'll be a doc soon enough, but unfortunately I won't be an MD.

But, I do think you're right. He could have the fibula fracture and walk without crutches. I guess its just wishful thinking on my part.

Reggie has a stress fracture. He may or may not play Saturday. It depends on how he felt during and after tonight's practice. He can play on it without causing more injury, I think, but it may cause a great deal of pain.

Snakebit season, for sure.

lol...sorry, but the "slight tear in the meniscus" report was the buzz on Monday. It may very well be a bruised knee, fractured leg, or a quadruple hematoma :) for all I know, but fact is, the kid's hurt and won't be at 100% for a while.
