Maybe Sprint is tied in with the OU email server.

technicians are working on the problem?

Are they? I haven't seen any announcements about e-mail problems on the IT page, but I know I'm not the only one with slow and sometimes nonexistent service. I thought it was fixed yesterday, but it got worse again today.

it was legitimately down for a lot of users yesterday, not just slow

It's been both again today. It appears to be working right now (no mail but at least I can connect).

my parents don't want to pay for a land line since they're already paying for cell phones for us AND we're rarely home.

Just go to your neighbors, I'm sure they won't mind.

Nothing's stopping the two of you from getting one is there? $18 for basic service from Cox.

I am not willing to pay them $9 a month AND have to buy a phone AND pay for whatever the heck setup fees they charge for a phone I will only use once in a blue moon when Sprint is being retarded.

i already give them enough money for the dern cable

Spoken like tech.

It's not down, it's so slow it's useless. But it's not down.

Not at the moment, but Sprint as a company and as a service, yes.
Stupid bastages are always getting our bill wrong & we experience loss of service. We live within a mile of a Sprint tower & still can't get a signal or go on roam about half the time.

I was having problems getting service at some of the places I go so I went to the Sprint store to see if they had a phone that had better range. The sales lady started in on her prepared speech on how Sprint had superior service and how I should be able to pick up a signal anywhere I go. I popped off that it was a nice theory and a good selling point but it wasn't true since I'm stuck with no signal most of the time I get called out to the Texas panhandle. I ended up getting a phone that I did some research on & so far so good, but I haven't been back to the panhandle since.

Sprint :succs:

yeah, I like the time I was in a Sprint store looking at their map that shows everywhere they have coverate. There was a sort of "you are here" star on their map showing the coverage in Wichita and when I looked down at my phone it had no signal.

Change to Alltel. YWIA.

Oh yeah. And the OU email server sucks azz. It's down about half the time. One would think that there would be plenty of computer geeks to keep it running. However, it is a government operation. Plus they have to use OneNet, which is about 15 years behind the technology curve.

I remember when I first moved in to the dorms in 2000 that my roommate and I had lots of fun with the FTP servers that OU had. They had set up so that you could not only view other peoples' webpage files on the server, you could download them as well. So we began downloading the entire server for shiggles. Didn't take them long to fix that one. :D

I thought about it until I was working down by Wilburton & I had a signal & the other guy with Alltel didn't.

Cingular is actually better in overall coverage but they don't piggyback their signal to other carriers' towers. If you get away from their towers (like in Wilburton for example) there's no signal.

Unfortunately I've learned a bunch about cell carriers out here on the rigs. Every one of them have weak points. It just seems Sprint is weaker than most. :(
