I'm looking for serial cables online, but I don't have a specific designation or model number so it's difficult. The cable I'm looking for has a serial connector at one end and a jack at the other end (like what you'd on a pair of portable headhones). There is no designation anywhere on the cable. Anybody have any idea what that sucker is called?

Are there fixed headphones?

The kind you plug into a Walkman or iPod, not the kind you plug into A/V equipment.

That could be it. Not sure if my device has an "internal TTL to RS232 converter", though. I can order the cable from the OEM, I was just trying to see if I could find better prices somewhere else.

Newbomb Turk is a better innerweb searcher than me. I couldn't find anything like what you were looking for.

what is it for?

if you look for the model number of the OEM one you can probably find it somewhere else

It's for a data logger. THE OEM P/N is "CABLE-PC"...not too helpful. ;)

The OEM wants $9 for it. Is that a lot for a serial cable? Newbomb's link had the same thing (maybe) for $10.

What were you looking for? a 99 cent sale?

:D

Since the OEM wanted $45 for USB/serial adapter that I found for $26 on Amazon I thought a price comparison was warranted.

since it's not a common serial cable, I'd say $9 isn't too bad.

$10 is pretty average for a serial cable like that

do you need a lot of them or something?

"db9 3.5mm serial"

I didn't look past the first page on Google, so there may be a better deal than the $10 one that I found.

Not really, but there's no point in paying more than we have to for something. Especially when the money comes out of the same pot as my paycheck.

i'm thinking you might be able to save a couple of bucks, or maybe put them together yourself, but if it's just a few, i'm thinking $9 is probably ok
