I feel Carroll Shelby sometimes ruins the looks of a good looking mustang, but he sure as hell knows his chili. We tried some of his chili mix last night and it was friggin' awesome. I hope they don't stop making the stuff.

So, like, try it.

Now that Norm likes it, stock up. It'll be out of business within the week.

It had beans, right? Cause everyone knows that real chili has BEANS!

I kinda like the thickness of the chili (without the flour in it). I had to add the cayenne to my own bowl as my wife doesn't like it. it was great. I also had to make a seperate bowl of kidney beans for my wife to throw in her bowl. I HATE beans in my chili.

I never have luck with chili recipies for some reason.

Bean hater.

Norm doesn't like chili, he likes meat sauce.

I can't believe you think it's only chili recipies.

here's a great chili recipe:

3 lbs. ground chuck
1 med onion, diced
4 tomatoes, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 can tomato paste
1 can tomato sauce
1 can beef broth
beans

season to taste.

the end.

the point is this: if you don't have the season to taste part worked out, you aren't much a chili ****** *******.

I was gonna say that's the point of a recipe, but Hatfield just destroyed that argument.

You guys try to be more helpful, please.

Oh, I just tried re-fried beans from a dried mix and it was good. Much better than from a can. Why didn't anyone here tell me that re-fried beans could be that good from a mix?

well, i agree w/ hat (on THIS topic).

the things i listed are things i put in every batch of chili. after that, it's a free-for-all.

Carroll Shelby's mix = Wlof Brand in a can. IMO. I hated it and found it to be bland.

Folks beans do not belong in chili. That's just gross.

exactly...you might as well pour what you call chili over spaghetti noodles.

beans = chili.

beans most freakin' definitely = chili.

My wife just made some using a new recipe and it kicked major boo-ta.

I'll post the recipe later.

Beans=beans.

Chili shouldn't have beans.

You must have done it wrong. I made it using the "tomatoey" part of the recipe with onions and didn't use the flour. Then I put the pepper on mine. I liked it way better than williams, which is what we normally use.

My son just left a message this morning saying that he would call back for my chili recipe this evening:

Here it is. Its my very own recipe.

2 1/2 lbs. ground chuck, Buffalo or poultry
2 C. chopped white onion
3 to 4 med. garlic cloves, minced
2 cans (15 1/2 oz) kidney, and or pinto beans, undrained
1 and 1/2 cans of the sm. Campbell's Tomato Soup
2 cups or so of nice juicy crushed tomatoes (You can substitute with canned)
4 Tbsp. chili powder (I like Spice Island)
1 Tbsp. onion juice
1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash of white pepper
Dash of black pepper

In heavy saucepan, brown beef on medium heat.
Pour off any fat. Lower heat.
Add onion-simmer a couple of minutes
Add chili powder and vinegar-stir
Add tomatoes
Add beans
Add garlic.
Add remaining dry spices.
Add onion juice
Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes.

Serve with cracklin' jalapeño cornbread

Chili is supposed to get a little better every time you re-heat it. Beans don't re-heat well. Therefore:

beans do not equal chili

Make your beans on the side and add them in.

Tomatoes in chili = spaghetti sauce

just my .02 :)

Beans reheat most excellently. Three day old beans from a tupperware dish are waaay better than frech from the crockpot.

I make beans (and chili for that matter), FoodSaver them, and put them in the freezer. After 6 months, they'll be better than ever.

I froze half of my chili and it went well with my infamous cheese dip.

The best thing about pinto beans is that if you added a jalepeno (and who the **** doesn't put a couple of jalepenos in their beans? I mean really - it's a given), the longer they sit in the fridge the spicier they get.
