OKLAHOMA 6, WEBER STATE 0

The No. 9-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club completed a road sweep of No. 13 Weber State in Ogden, Utah Saturday night by posting their first shutout of the season, winning 6-0 over the Wildcats. Freshman goaltender Ryan Anderson stopped all 23 shots he faced to earn the shutout for the Sooners and six different OU players lit the lamp to secure the Oklahoma win. Senior Kevin Kennedy scored the lone goal of the first period, a power play tally at 8:18, to put OU up 1-0. The Sooners would only score once in the second period as well, that goal being a power play goal from sophomore Owen Brewer at 13:10. Four goals in the first ten minutes of the third period salted the game away for OU. Even-strength goals by sophomore Doug Gebbie at :44 and junior Wil Petty at 3:35, followed by power play goals from freshman Greg Curtiss at 4:43 and freshman Keith Denton at 6:35, made tonight’s final 6-0.

While Anderson stopped all 23 Weber State shots he faced, Wildcats goaltender Andy Osikowicz was shelled by 45 OU shots with 6 of them getting past him. OU’s power play was 4 for 12 on the evening. The Sooners shutout meant that Weber State was 0 for 7 with the man advantage.

The Sooners improve to 6-0-0 on the season while the loss drops Weber State to 1-4-0. Oklahoma heads back out on the road next weekend as they participate in the 2006 ACHA D1 Showcase in Youngstown, Ohio. The Sooners will play three games in the Showcase, starting with a showdown against No. 2 Penn State on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, the Sooners will take on No. 6 Lindenwood and OU will finish in a Sunday morning tilt against unranked Scranton.
