OKLAHOMA 9, WEBER STATE 3

The No. 9-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club received two goals each from three different Sooners in OU’s first game against a D1 opponent this season, beating No. 13 Weber State on the road in Ogden, Utah Friday night by a score of 9-3. Senior defenseman Danny Force got the scoring underway for OU with a goal at 6:06 of the first. Sophomore forward Adrian Borchgrevink scored his 10th goal of the season with a power play goal at 10:39 and the Sooners took a 2-0 lead to the locker room at the end of the first period. In the second period, the teams alternated goals during the stanza, starting with freshman forward Keith Denton’s unassisted goal at the 4:47 mark. Weber scored their own unassisted goal, but freshman forward Luke Rose brought the Sooners lead back to 3 with a goal at 6:01. Weber scored again, this time a short-handed goal, but OU answered almost a minute later with a tally from senior forward Kevin Kennedy at 10:37. Weber then scored a power play goal and Rose countered again for OU at 17:47, giving the Sooners a 6-3 lead at the end of forty minutes of action. The Sooners scored two goals in less than a minute, senior forward Justin Hall’s goal at 6:28 followed by Borchgrevink’s team-leading 11th goal of the season at 7:10, to put the game out of reach for the Wildcats. Hall added his second goal of the evening at 16:23 to conclude the scoring and making tonight’s final score 9-3 in favor of the Sooners.

Oklahoma’s goaltender, senior Aaron Schmeilski, stopped 29 of 32 Weber State shots while Wildcats goalie Kyle Gover made 29 saves on 38 OU shots. OU was 3 for 10 for the evening on the power play while Weber State was 1 for 9 with the man advantage.

With the win, the Sooners improve their record to 5-0-0 while the loss leaves Weber State with a 1-3-0 record. Oklahoma remains in Ogden to play another game tomorrow night against the Wildcats before returning to Norman on Sunday.
