the following question is when will OPEC cut production and when will the terrorists strike again?

OPEC has been cutting production but it doesn't matter because inventories keep rising. Venezula made a big cut but all came out of their imaginary production.(They like to pretend they produce 3.3 mil a day when it's closer to 2.5, cutting pretend barrels doesn't prop up the price) OPEC might make serious cuts to keep oil above 50, but other sources could make up for that, and/or if demand stays slack.

Actually, inflation adjusted, gas is not at an all time high.

And:

The deterioration in trade was led by another record foreign oil bill, which pushed imports up to an all-time high, swamping a solid increase in exports, which also set a record. The politically sensitive trade deficit with China also set a monthly record at $22 billion.

And:

The widening trade gap in August occurred even though U.S. exports of goods and services set a record, rising by 2.3 percent to $122.4 billion, helped by strong increases in sales of commercial jetliners, drilling equipment and computers.

The increase in exports was offset by a 2.4 percent rise in imports, which also set a record at $192.3 billion, reflecting a big rise in America's foreign oil bill.

You need to blame all those people filling their gas tanks. :texan:

Higher than during Clinton's administration, Nixon's administration, Reagan's administration, Carter's administration -- you name it. I don't know what more proof you need that George W Bush is the greatest American President EVER.

The ONLY credit Bush should be given is keeping the country safe at home which has kept investor confidence high enough for this to happen.

1. If Apple doesn't invent the iPod, a lot fewer people would listen to music.
2. If a lot fewer people listen to music, there would be a lot fewer "What Are You Listening To" threads.
3. If there were fewer "What Are You Listening To" threads, people who actually have a life would be less annoyed having to skip over them all to get to the good stuff.
4. Ergo, Apple is profiting from the misery of others.

I like to dig on microsoft as much as the next guy, but I really don't understand the big deal on Vista being so far overdue. Its pretty much par for the course as software goes (see Duke Nukem Forever...going on 10 years in development). The software that does make it out on time usually has more bugs in it than an anthill.

Not saying that vista won't have bugs, but delaying so long will probably make it much less likely that everyday users experience the BSOD.....that and its giving them the time needed to make sure they have absolute control over any digital media that ever sniffs your hard drive.

The Dow is interesting as triva but is not of much relevance as a measure of the market. The S & P is still over 10% below the 2000 level, the NASDAQ 50%. Further, the index only measure capital gains. If dividends were included the DOW would be many times the muliple of the current number. New corporations are added to the index, old ones dropped. And of course a 2006 dollar does not buy what a 2000 dollar buys.

Is the DJIA?

Given that it is based upon the market cap of the largest industrial comapanies and the market cap is based upon the stock price and the stock price is based upon, among other things discounted free cash flow, and discounted cash flow is discounted at a rate greater than inflation, than I would say: YES, yes it is.

If Kerry had won, and was dealt the EXACT same deck GWB was, and did everything EXACTLY the way GWB has, and the economy/unemployment were where they are now, every newscast would begin with "John Kerry, the bestest president our country has ever known...."

And don't try and deny it.

Instead, all the economy "news" is buried on the 11th page.

Personally, I don't give a **** what the news is reporting. DOW? NYSE? Unemployment? Defecit? Couldn't care less. I'm making more $$ this year than last. I've managed to make more money every year for the past 32 years. My kids are working and each makes more $$ from year-to-year. None of them are on government subsitance (well except my slutty 52 year old sister who's still sucking on mom's tit).

That's my barometer. And my barometer says the weather is fine.

I thought this thread was about the DOW. There could be a thread about rain on this board and some simpleton would find a way to make a partisan point about it. If it rained and some posters got wet it would be because Bush/Clinton/Reagan ect was in office at the time.

Where in the **** have you been? A cave?

Everybody knows that teenage pregnancy, AIDS, terror, nukes in Korea, nukes in Iran, the terrible economy, OUs football woes, Lidle flying a plane into that building, and El ****ing Nino are the fault of GWB. Geez. Guess you never read the paper or watch the news huh?

And just to be clear, when we all hear that "popping" sound of the bubble? It wasn't in early 2001. I just want that to be clear, while everyone is coorelating events and what not.
