Think Nike, think sell out, think 'anything to make a buck'; and then read Xing's post.

I think it's a crock of ****.

Guess I'm in the minority . . . . think it's kinda cool.

Understated - subtle - nice tribute, but from what I read, it wouldn't be permanent.

I dig it.

Especially if it isn't permanent.

Herein lies all you need to know-

The jersey will be on sale Saturday at the Nike tent, located on the northwest corner of Bryant-Denny Stadium. The retail price is $80.

sanantoniosooner

So, do you think Bama approached Nike with the idea or the other way around?

and FWIW.....I think even NIKE knows they can screw with Oregon all they want, but walk on eggshells with Bama.

SelmaBamaFan
10/10/2006, 08:19 PM
It looks OK, dont get me wrong. But messing with our jerseys is like someone messing with the Sooner Schooner (or making horse pigs). We take pride in never changing it. I know that sounds wierd as hell... ah screw it... Nike is the devil and I hate them, hate them, hate them!!

This is just the start btw, ever wonder why Oregon has 16 different jerseys? or why Florida has a throw back (or throw up) jersey every year? It's because of the extra sales on those jerseys. In other words its a sell out for Nike, and now we will be hard pressed to do it EVERY DAMN YEAR!

I don't have problem with it for 1 game. I know there's a lot of fans from other teams that will ridicule us for "living in the past", but what the h*ll, they do that already. As long as people buy the stuff and recruits keep putting on Houndstooth hats when they sign, we'll see it from now on. The man lost 46 games in 25 years and had a .824 winning % at Alabama. That's something we'll never see again, so I guess we'll just have to keep looking back;)

I was hoping the whole jersey would have been houndstooth, that'd be sweet. I'm glad NU is with Adidas and they haven't tried to mess with our jersey's too much. Nike would probably want to stick a bottle of bushmills on the helmet as a tribute to Devaney, or a vanilla ice cream cone on the jersey for Osborne.

NU should have a stipe up the side of the pants that resembles an ear of corn.

D*mn! I need to go out and buy some Nike stock. FSU is going all black this week against BC. http://www.fanblogs.com/florida_state/006628.php
That should work out pretty good for FSU players since they can just take off the gold helmet, and go commit burglary without having to go back to the dorm and change clothes!http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/images/smilies/ack.gif

Oh, and thanks for the welcome Birddog, but I've been on the board a couple of years. I just read the posts most of the time. I have been a pretty big OU fan since the home and home series a few years back. I hope we can do that again in the next few years.

I think it would be cool if OU, for one game, had brown fur around the collar of the jersey in honor of the 1987 OU-Nebraska game where Jamelle was wearing Taylor Tubbs fur coat on the sidelines on crutches.

Good times, good times.

Agreed. I like it. Then again, after OU, Alabama and Nebraska are my favorite teams.

Hear me now and believe me later when I say, I'd rather us play the whole season with houndstooth timmed jerseys than to go the whole season without names on the back - the stupid, gimmicky thing that's not working for us.

Please, somebody bring the real Bob Stoops back to Norman and take the alien Stoops that replaced him in December 2004 back to outer space.

I agree with that. For the last few years I had heard Bama fans shouting "Take their names off the jerseys! That'll show 'em!" Show 'em what?, I ask. In the current ESPN age of self-promotion <like it or not, that's just the way it is> players want as much exposure as possible. They don't want the casual fan to say "Damn!, number 34 is tearing it up!" They want to hear "Damn!, that Joe Blo is awesome!". If a team, such as Penn State, has never had them, then that's cool, but removing them has not proven to be effective whatsoever. BTW, this is not a knock on Coach Bob Stoops, I think CBS is a great Coach, I'm talking in general.

It's the stupidest thing EVAR. We laughed at Texas A&M when they did it. It's just gimmicky. Let the little guys of the college football world do gimmicky things. If players lucky and talented enough to get scholarships at programs like Oklahoma and Alabama can't be motivated by that alone, surely they won't be motivated by having their names taken off the jerseys. I was shocked that Stoops fell for it.
