I'm headed out in a little bit to Hughes County to get my learn on in the field. Helluva notice. I stopped by my boss' office after taking the lady and hawt chick that do our expense reports to lunch and he said I was going out today and I needed to be there as soon as I could. I'm doing laundry now and trying to get the room back like it was before I started living here.

That call will come in the middle of the night, on holidays, weekends, a day after you get back home, during a job, or several weeks of sitting at home.

just got settled into the best western in McAlester. the rig is about 30 minutes away. I checked in with the guys at the rig and they said to come back at noon. I guess for the next 3 weeks I'll be working noon to midnight.

They said that it would be a slow night until about 3 or 4am as the guys on the rig were replacing a length of cable or something.

the cables stretch out and weaken over time and need to be replaced from time to time.

We're drilling about 25-30 fph. We're at 6893.6 feet as of right now. been a slow day.

drilling cable is measured by ton/hours. after a certain limit of use of the draw work, the cables need to be replaced so they wont snap and drop the blocks

We' got tripped back in at about 4:45am & are blazing away at about 10-12 fph. We're at about 9800 & in the lateral at 95 degrees. It's starting to be an uphill battle. :D

heh, these dune buggies are awesome. I like this job. I've just been sitting in a recliner watching tv and reading. About once an hour me and the guy raining me take a survey and then every three hours we send some data to the folks that hired us.

I can't wait for my shirts and coveralls with my name sewn onto the fronts show up.

I'm sure they have you wear a hard hat. How do you accumulate stickers for it? Like stickers for a football helmet. Dumb question but was just wondering.

Suppliers, projects, others will have hardhat stickers (at least at the sites I work) and they will just give them to you. Sometimes you have to ask though.

Actually, mine is starch white and shiny and I don't have any stickers. I did get some mud on it last night.

The roughnecks, or the guys that work on the rig, want to be us. They think we seat down in our trailer and watch pron all day. Most of them will ask how they become MWD's, what skills, and how much we make. Of course the actual driller on the rig would rather be a directional driller usually.

who woulda thought it. I have been in chemical plants my entire life and dealt with it all from Anhydrous ammonis, to natural gas to H2S gas and here I am like a first grader in Junior high.. I am clueless.

we're watching some training video about drilling right now. there are two dudes alternating drilling into the same hole. One will be in the main well while another is drilling in the relief well.
