View Full Version : What are we ranked WHEN we win?

It's kind of an interesting thing to think about. Part of the problem is that two teams ranked ahead of us can also benefit from beating unbeaten teams in front of us.

Obviously, we move from 13 to 12 by beating #7 Texas.

At this point, we need some style points. An impressive win will probably determine if we leap frog Notre Dame at 12th. Let's say we do and we are 11th. One of Georgia or Tennessee will be beaten so we move up to 10th.

If LSU loses we obviously move ahead of them. I wonder what happens if Florida barely loses--will they fall below us? Tough call, probably not. Oregon losing at Cal will bump us up another spot. Ohio State, USC, Auburn, Michigan, West Virginia and Louisville are not going to lose this weekend so the best we can hope for is 8th but probably more like 10th.

If we crack the top 10 this week and have the horns in our rearview mirror then it is time to start dominating the crappy teams that lie ahead and start pulling for teams in front of us to get knocked off. We can get to 9th eventually with the loser of West Virginia-Louisville falling. The SEC teams all stand a chance of beating up on each other some more, but finding other losses for LSU and Auburn are hard to find. I do see Tennessee falling again, even if they beat Georgia.

A win over the horns means we still have a shot at the title, but we will need some serious help and some key upsets.

Teams ranked ahead of us and their best chances to lose...

Ohio State - at Michigan State, vs. Michigan
USC - at Oregon State, vs. Oregon, vs. Cal and vs. Notre Dame
Auburn - vs. Florida, vs. Georgia, at Alabama, SEC Championship
Michigan - vs. Michigan State, at Penn State, vs. Iowa and at Ohio State
Florida - vs. LSU, at Alabama, vs. Georgia, at Florida State and SEC Championship
West Virginia - at Louisville and at Pitt
Louisville - vs. West Virginia, at Rutgers and at Pitt
LSU - at Florida, at Tennessee, vs. Bama, at Arkansas and SEC Championship
Georgia - vs. Tennessee, at Florida, at Auburn, vs. Georgia Tech and SEC Championship
Oregon - at Cal, vs. UCLA, at Washington State, at USC and at Oregon State
Tennessee - at Georgia, vs. Bama, at South Carolina, vs. LSU, at Arkansas and SEC Championship
Notre Dame - vs. UCLA, at Air Force, at USC

No way Georgia, Tennessee or Florida runs through their schedule. Some of these other teams could falter and stay ranked ahead of us. That's why we not only need a win, but an IMPRESSIVE win tomorrow.

Considering the formula this year so far, we drop 3 spots with a win, move up a spot if it's a bye week, and stand pat if we lose to a referee.

To get into the title game this year, we're going to need some crazy **** to happen, like what happened the last few weeks in 2001. The weak Big 12 is working against us.
