Ok my POS toshiba that I bought two years ago is about to crap out on me. I have had to have the ac adapter replaced once and it's coming lose again. It overheats and just randomly turns off, and I freaking hate it. I paid 1400 and I'm becoming a cheap bastard and don't want to spend that kindof dough on something that I just use to play on the internets.

Rhino has a good emachine that we can use for work stuff, then I have my work laptop, all I need is a cheap laptop that I don't have to plug in to get on the internets.

I just want to use it whilst I watch TV, and for Rhino to check his fantasy football and baseball machines. Oh and to show me links on youtube.

My question was serious. I've had laptops for years. I've never owned a laptop.

Well for one the work laptop has doesn't have a wireless internets.

Also, there times in the day that I'm in the office and I'm "working" but answering emails from this computer through gmail.

Were not suppose to use the laptop for play. Also I'm afraid when I take it in for yearly updates they are going to be able to see the dates and times when I was in the "office" playing instead of out on the road. But there again I've almost closed as much business this year that I had all of last year.

Also it's my company's lap top, and I don't wan't to spend more that 500-600 dollars.

i bought one for school...

if you are worried about personal data on there, you can always install an OS on another harddrive or something and use that for personal stuff, a buddy i know rotated through 3 different drives on his work laptop

in theory you could get a USB drive and boot from that also

posted before i saw this too... if you just don't want to be shady, i guess that is commendable :D

also wireless adapters are cheap if you are not using Linux ;)

I agree.

Plus, if you're afraid of MacOS, you can always load XP on it.

These computers have the neat-o magnetic power connector, you'll never break it. At least not on the inside.

for powerpoint presentations or just for media stuff like movies/music.

HP comes with one also.

Can you eject a CD/DVD with the remote?

I don't remember. I dropped my HP and replaced it with a Toshiba.

Though, I don't see the point in having an eject button. If you need to remove or exchange cd/dvd you'll need to manually handle it anyway, unless you have a levitation button on the remote also.

I haven't tried with front row on my macbook. Don't think so though.

Exactly!! So why do some remotes have that "feature"?

perhaps, it's training wheels for the novice assistant.

Have you ever seen somebody try to put in a cd when they can't even figure out where it goes?

Also, you'll save some bucks going with an AMD processor.
