"The 'Weezer' name has been associated with other bands and musical performers with whom [the band] do not want to be associated with in any advertisement. The defendants have, without any right, title or authorization, misappropriated the valuable 'Weezer' name."

F*ck that. You wanna know what misappropriated the "valuable" Weezer name? Make Believe.

F*ck you, Rivers. Go get laid, you whiny little bitch.

First of all, the blue album, pinkerton, those are greatness.

Second of all, was everyone ticked off when OU flexed their muscle and had the "pOUt" shirts removed after the Oregan game? What's the difference?

Third of all, Rentals? Friend of P? gah.

We had them removed a week later, and they had our actual logo. This ad ran 2 years ago, and only featured the word "Weezer" on a ticket stub. If anyone should be asking for money from that ad, it should be Ticketmaster.

bri, it's very likely that the band has been negotiating with Miller for the last couple of years trying to come to a settlement before filing suit.

Pretty clear-cut-Miller violated a trademark and implied endorsement of their product.

I don't have a problem with their actions. If you have any kind of brand name trademarked you have to protect it.

If it were your trademark being used in a manner which you didn't and would not approve of then I'm certain your reaction would be the same.

^^

Yep. In fact, if you DON'T take action to protect a trademark, you lose it.

Yeah, but that doesn't explain them pretty much sucking for their last three albums.

Does bri work for a beer manufacturer?

also, Rivers does seem like a bitchy kind of passionate artist that makes idealistic stands like this. Didn't he used to be totally against relationships and swore he would only visit prostitutes? Is he really married now?

The ads came out at the end of 04. They are not the man law ads- these are print.

I can see weezer's point, but wtf? They shoot a video partying with bunnies at the PB mansion and yet, they don't condone drinking? ****ing pussies. Be a rock band and get back to making good music. Fags

Yeah, I guess the reason Weezer only put out one good album every three to five years was because Rivers can only write two good songs per year.

Pussies.

You guys need to start ripping Audioslave too, b/c they did the same thing. Bottom line is they have grounds. If you don't want your name used in an advertisement, you have that right.

You think they'll sue Whataburger next? Or maybe they do promote the sell of hamburgers...

They should sue Van Halen, too.

I understand the concept of protecting trademarks, but I don't see how they could possibly prove that they suffered any loss from these ads, or that Miller made any significant gains. Miller should have gotten permission, but it hardly entitles these guys to three times Miller's entire empire.

Personally, I'd dig it if a beer company implied that my concerts kick *** in an ad (as long as it wasn't Bud).
