SOONERS WEEKLY
For the Week of October 2, 2006

SOONERS DEAL PAIR OF LOSSES TO REBELS
NO HOCKEY GAMES FOR OKLAHOMA THIS WEEKEND

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (4-0-0) is off this weekend in order to allow the student/athletes to participate in the OU/Texas festivities in Dallas this weekend.

LAST WEEK’S OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma kept the offense in high gear this weekend with a pair of victories against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. On Friday evening, the Sooners got behind early but scored 13 unanswered goals to win 13-1. Defenseman Danny Force had a hat trick while Michael Gray, Keith Denton, Greg Smith and Trey Snow each added three assists in the game. The Sooners followed that performance with a 10-1 win Saturday night, led by defenseman Robert Hetrick’s hat trick. Sean Castle also had two goals for OU in the contest. Loads of penalties were called on both nights due to the new USA Hockey enforcement standards. Fifty-three separate penalties were called in the Friday game and 55 penalties were whistled in the Saturday contest. When the dust settled, the Sooners were called for 128 minutes in penalties over the weekend.

RANKINGS – The 2006-2007 pre-season ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking was released last week and the Sooners found themselves right where they ended last season at 11th in the nation. Six future OU opponents also made it into the pre-season ranking: Penn State (2nd), Lindenwood (5th), Iowa State (6th), Arizona State (8th), Weber State (10th) and Arizona (12th). Another OU opponent, Minot State, received ranking votes but not enough to land in the Top 20. The next ACHA D1 ranking is scheduled to be released this Friday, October 6th.
