Does the close game help him any or is this another nail in the coffin?

Another nail. He was supposed to win this game AND it was at Kyle Field. Who has he beaten since he has been at A&M? Well.....there's the Citadel, Texas State (barely), Army, blah blah blah of bad teams.

this is from the DMN.

"That might send Fran packing," said one assistant coach after pausing to watch the end of the game.

Losing against Tech after what has happened between them the last few years definitely doesn't help at all.

if he goes, are they able to get a good solid coach (a Bunch Davis type) or just a newbie??? Hate to see them get some stud coach, on the good side this should kill their recruiting for this year...

I'm hoping to avoid the Aggies playing for their season/Fran's job when we roll into town. they might quit on Fran but they might get lathered up in that special aggie way a la 2002.

of course, at texags.com they are throwing everyone under the bus, including this year's Heisman dark-horse and option magician, steven mcgee.

Fran is doomed and he's done it to himself. TCU and 'Bama are better off without him.

He's got some Ewing Theory potential. Discounting Bama's probation seasons they were undefeated well into 2005, and TCU has been in BCS discussion for 3 years now.

You better hope Fran doesn't get the axe this year, or Coach Kragthorpe will be recruiting against us next year with strong ties to Union and Jenks players and a bit of a better in on the texas ties.

Dennis Firedchoine better prepare his teams a lot better for their other rival (whorns) and us (Boomer!) if he has plans to stay in College Station another season.

With the close losses, you have to wonder if the problem is a lack of talent, or a lack of coaching. I mean, give the guy the benefit of the doubt. SHOULD his teams be keeping games against Tech and us in 2004 as close as they've been, or is he forcing them all to play better than they are.

Regardless, Bob Stoops has shortened the life expectancy of all future college football coaches with his dramatic turnaround of the Sooners (thanks for sucking at coaching and winning at recruiting, Blake!). They no longer have five years to show improvement in new programs. They have three years if they've had no success, possibly four if they've had hints of success.

And... this is Coach Fran's (FIRED!) fourth year, so I guess the Cotton Bowl LOSS is as much as they can hope for at A&M. Ah well. Maybe they'll get ex-Bamer Coach Price (roll, tide, roll!) to turn them around?

Al Jerkens was right, A&M could be among the nation's best with the fertile recruiting ground, the facilities and the money that flows into that program... but like aggies do, they think losing is winning, and a so-called 'rivalry' is the only reason to hold onto their football program.

it's not as cut and dry as it seems on the surface.

Aggy is still paying the buy-out clause of RC's contract....plus the $2 million a year Fran contract runs through 2011 I think.

That means if A&M fires Fran after '06, they'll be paying 3 salaries simultaneously for at least a year and 2 mega salaries until 2011.

That's a lot.

Their AD painted the program into a corner w/ Fran's extension.

I remember a few years ago, they rolled their big equipment trucks into Norman, and while they were quite handsome in their "almost crimson" paint scheme, I believe they mentioned only one National Championship from about 60-70 years prior (hell, Army won two since then). Though they did list a dozen or so SWC championships, I thought "Why are these aggies considered a tradition rich football school?"

Fran is a goner.

The Gillispie hire did Fran in along with the "playing not to lose" coaching style he's fostered.

lest we forget those gutsy fake punt, fake field goal calls against us in 2004. Fran has it in him... but is he just playing for his retirement?

Im starting to disagree with all the people who say "with the money and tradition and blah, blah, blah..A&M can be a great program garbage"..They will forever AND ALWAYS be considered the @nd major institution in Texas...As long as UT is going strong, and mostly OU and UT going strong, The AGs will never reach the mountaintop..It would be like saying okie state will be a national contender with all the money they are putting into there program..Nomatter how much money goes in, they will always lose the perception battle to OU.

I remember when Aggie hired Fran. My son said that the Big XII South would be a lot tougher to win. Well, I guess not so much.

I'm trying to figure out what is better - have A&M fire him, so that the ensuing coaching change turmoil that goes along with a new coach/system or keep him right where he is.

Maybe A&M's new slogan should be "We are the New Baylor".

maybe they could get RC back :D

at least he was taking them to bowls... hell he got fired the year he knocked us off at #1, but he lost to Texass, which is apparently the worst thing ever

Fran hasn't beaten Texass either... i can't imagine they are going to take that much longer

at least with Slocum they were turning down bowls ;)

There is a law college football that never fails....A&M, OU, and UT can not all be good at the same time. Never has happened, probably never will. Only hope for A&M in addition to getting a good coach, is for OU and UT to drop a couple pegs. Probably not going to happen while Stoops and Mack are there.

The sad part is, there is not another college football program that draws 85,000 fans to a home game that is inept as us. South Carolina maybe...but they still have Spurrier.

Keep ribbing us, because we deserve it. A&M needs another coach. It's painfully apparent. We'll still go to a bowl game this year, the season is not over, but Fran let a lesser team beat him on Saturday. That's been a recurring theme throughout his stay here.

lining up that fatass HB 8 yards deep and going for it on 4th down should have cost him his job after that game.

F no. Did you watch him play vs Tech? 9-20 103 yards with a long of 44. There were 4 passes when he threw the ball RIGHT at a Tech defender but they couldn't come up with it.

McGee sucks. Couldn't pass well against a Tech defense.
