We were gonna see "All The King's Men" but I prevailed at the last minute.

Yes, "The Guardian" has Demi Moore's husband and Costner, but, it is superb.

Plus, the Coasties (a/k/a "puddle pirates") were due for a hero flick. This will be their "Top Gun." Also, many real USCG rescue swimmers featured. Selfless Service is the theme and it comes thru loud and clear. Suitable for kids over 10 too.

Bottomline: waaay cool movie. Definitely worth twice the cost of admission.

I thought it looked pretty good when I saw a preview a while back. Now I need to find a babysitter and take the wife out.

Is there a quasi-gay volleyball scene?

I am shocked. shocked that a movie not about baseball starring costner could be any good.

But you have hit on something very relevant. This movies shares a theme with "Bulll Durham" involving Costner's character and his interaction with a fellow principle character. Go see it and please report back.;)

80% of that movie was filmed here in my hometown of Shreveport.

I'll wait for it to come out of video. I hate going to the movie theater.
People talking, candy wrappers as loud as cymbals, cell phones, etc.
I just hate being around people.

You are correct, the cool "A school" and bar scenes were filmed in Barksport. Specifically Bossier City, LA I guess.

The cool ocean-y parts were filmed around Kodiak AK.

No, but he tells him to relax and use the Force.

Does anyone have any clue what criteria Rotten Tomatoes uses to determine if a review is good or bad? I can't see calling a review that includes "Despite being overly cliched" as good.

Costner stars in generally two kinds of movie*.

Those that follow the "Shane" plot theme: Dances, Postman, Waterworld

Those that follow the "Bull Durham" plot theme: Bull Durham, The Guardian, Tin Cup

*exception: Field of Dreams

My very first movie date was to a film called The Guardian. It was a horror flick, though.
