I was informed that not only do I get a per diem while I'm in the shop, it is not $25/day like I thought but $39/day.

Doc, I'm gonna go out and maybe get the syphalis tonight. You'd be proud.

there is also this drop dead gorgeous new girl that is gonna get asked out next week. WOW. Today when I saw her there wasn't enough blood in my head to operate my mouth. I learned my lesson from Deb the copy girl.

Damn dude, when are they going to send you out? Martin's scheduled to start with us on Monday & I'm trying to get his *** shipped out here for his "training".

Oh, and $39 is damn good for a per dium. Hopefully soon we'll get another meal raise.

Crap, I just finished my third week in the shop. I just got my lappy on Tuesday, I'm still waiting on my credit card and phone. They seem to be a little confused. The two guys before me were in the shop 5 weeks and they just went out early this week.

Hell, I found out that I can't break out until i've been in the field for a while and then go to a 3 or 8 week MWD school.

Oh well.

39 bucks a day is decent for meal perdiem. It's about average for out of the way places. I've seen as high as 49 and 52 before... those are my favorite sites heh.

Anchorage, Alaska has the best though at around 65 a day! :D

I'm in OKC. I bet I didn't spend $25 for food this week.

What causes your employer to change your per diem?

It all depends on the city, and the going rate for food.

MiccoMacey
9/29/2006, 08:48 PM
I work Sunday...and I might call your brother and wife-in-law and see if he's interested in some tag-a-longs to the fair. If'n you guys are interested in meeting up somewhere.

1stTimeCaller

I kinda figured that but where I work, I assume, they have a flat rate. I can't imagine eating $39 worth of food every day. This is awesome.

Some of you may remember that I left one job because they cheated me outta $43.60 and now these people give me $39/day to feed me. I think I love these people.

He ain't so big I need to practice slapping his scrawny behind. I've punched bigger boys when I was in prison than him.

Just as was said earlier, it changes depending on where I'm workinig. I travel quite a bit and stay in one spot for a month at a time.

It can also change depending on the time of the year in some places. It goes up in Atlantic City during the summer months (Tourist Season).

My first contract I worked, it was bid as straight per diem all the way. That means we got straight per diem for housing too. That didnt last too long though LOL.

Thats all yall get for diem?? My boss got us the maximum per day, $85. Why dont they give yall the max? It is not like they have to pay any taxes on it.

SelmaBamaFan

Max meal was 85 per day?!?!

Or was the total per diem for housing AND meals 85 per day?

85 seems a bit high just for meals.

I stay for free in a trailor on the rig location. So I am saving some untaxable dough.

SelmaBamaFan
9/29/2006, 09:50 PM
Well damn, you got it made then.

We had it worked out where we would call ahead to the area around our next site and find corporate apartments. We'd get 2-3 bedroom apt's and split the costs.

Either that or stay in an Extended Stay of America. They are dirt cheap.

Mongo
9/29/2006, 09:54 PM
Around where I work, it is sleep in a trailor on location or go to a hotel that charges by the quarter hour. I would put up with a loud rig before I stay in a room that if I hit it with a blacklight, everything glows.

SelmaBamaFan
9/29/2006, 09:58 PM
If you are in OKC there is a nice Studio Plus (nice, for an extended stay company that is) on the NW side of town. Thats where we stayed when we were doing work at the FAA Training Center.

DDs get the same here, I think. We also get $75/day for our trailers, more if the computers are in your trailer.

From what I have gathered, MWD is the closest thing to free money out there.

Then again, my experience is 3 weeks in the shop so I could very well be wrong.

Watched TV
Slept
Adjusted the MWD tool...15 minutes of work.

what tools do you guys run?

I think we have four base tools, the UPA, UPB, Teleco and Tru-Trak. The UPB is battery powered. We can put gammas on all of them or just run them directional.

Ha ha! Ours is a multiple pulse width which means we don't have to do any adjustments or tuning. We normally run a 400 gallon pulser that can handle anywhere from 100-400GPM. I think your tool has to be adjusted for GPM & has a postive or negative pulse, but I could be wrong...We're running gamma on this job. We just got a new system developed where we can run 2 batteries--meaning up to 300 hours during gamma jobs. (It's come in handy on this job since we've tripped 4 times in 5 days.)

I hope your gamma logging is easier than some of the other companies I've heard about. I've heard some guys complain it takes up to 30 minutes to process the gamma for each kelly. That's crazy!

we measure **** while someone drills.

MWD measurement while drilling

we let the directional driller know where his bit is and where it's headed and if it's where the well plan says it should be. The other guys can tell you more and correct me if I'm wrong.

The gamma measures the magnetic fields while you're drilling so you can tell what type of formation you're going through.

Mongo's a mudlogger. He collects samples from the cuttings and verifies and identifies the different formations being drilled.

1TC & I are basically the steering wheel for the directional drilling. We don't actually steer the bit, but we monitor the angle and direction downhole. We also collect the gamma radiation data downhole so they'll know what formations we're passing through/targeting. I liken my job as subterranian sonar.

Mongo's the tip of the spear. He collects his samples from near the bit. Our tool gathers the data about 50 ft. behind.

Actually I partied my *** off in college and got my degree in criminal justice with some geology. The biggest thing about the oilfield is having experience. You never stop learning and every well is different. 1TC will learn more in his first week in the field than all the time in the shop.

I work for BH-INTEQ, not Weatherford.
