I have a new one – the US embassy in Bangkok.

$50 for something notarized? Is that a normal fee?

So, I was going in to the American Citizen Services department today and I’m told that they’re closed the last Friday of every month. I dunno why. A long weekend after every paycheck, maybe? That would be nice.

They also get all of the American and Thai holidays off. If I’m not mistaken that is something like 25 days off a year.

And, the embassy is open only from 7:30am-11:00am in the morning and 1:00pm-2:00pm in the afternoon. I wonder what they do after 2:00pm.

Jeez, I don't charge a cent to notarize something. Then again, that's because I used to notarize stuff all the time for the credit union and still do at the insurance agency, and if I didn't charge credit union clients or insureds to do it I couldn't charge anyone else. State law and stuff.

Though I'm curious what state has them appointed as a notary public. Since I'm an Alaska notary, I can't notarize documents outside the state of Alaska.

I'm sure they've got something worked out, it just struck me odd.

You've obviously been out of the country for awhile so you may have forgotten how government and its employees work. Great to get a taste of America again though right? :D
