What distinguishes a 3 Star from 4 and 5 start recruits, and who all makes that assessment?

Why I ask is because I have seen some players on our field during the last 2 or 3 years who were billed as having many stars, but I'm beginning to wonder, unless its a coaching problem instead.

Chuck Long assigned all the stars. Now that he's gone, we shouldn't have that problem.

star ratings are bs. factors involved are who they are playing for. what kind of competition do they allegedly play. and the biggest joke...what schools are interested in giving them a scholarship.

The ratings for the players has been proven to not mean everything. As you see every year there are studs in college football who were not highly ranked and or even ranked at all. And they go to smaller schools and blossom. But I will say this: They were dead-on in 2004 when they put Adrian Peterson as a 5-star and top ranked player in the country. :D

Mark Clayton is a good example of this fallacy.

I remember 'Q' had 3 stars on one site but only 2 on some others.

A lot of times you will watch a relative unkown guy get signed by a major university shoot from a 1 star to at least a 3 or 4 overnight. It's almost like they have overlooked them, and then realized the mistake.
