Assuming that the refs don't somehow give the win to BYE this week, I am looking ahead to Texas. Here's how I see it.

I think the line should open around TX -5.5. It goes almost without saying that UT's Oline will have success against our DTs. However, I've also seen cruddy teams sellout to stop AD in the last 2.3 football seasons and have moderate success even when their DLine is overmatched. I believe we can stop the run at least to the point of keeping us in the game when UT has the ball. Not convinced Colt McCoy can tear us apart, and our secondary is very talented but somewhat inconsistent.

On offense, we already know Kevin Wilson won't pull a Chuck Long (who pulled a Greg Davis) last year with ineffective compensation for Texas' blitz and probable dominance of our OL. Of course, we know just how good Paul & Co have become and getting open downfield, which should also be good enough on this sie of the ball to keep in the game. We know we can't run well between the tackles, so we're going to need to scheme for that.

Coaching mismatches: Bob & KW v. Mack and Chizik...while not as highly touted as Chizik, I think KW is GREAT. We're showing nice balance on offense, and even if Chizik is better than KW objectively, Greg Davis pulls the average down pretty low.

I think OU wins this game 3 or 4 times out of ten. Texas is objectively a little better, but not a helluva lot, and we have weapons on offense this year that we didn't last. I like the way we shape up here, as long as we can keep Jamal Chrles and SY in check. (n check meaning they can't rush more than about 130 yards on us or it will be complete p0wnage...if we keep them closer to about 100 on the ground we should be in good shape...)

One of these quarterbacks will have to step up. I think coaching strategy and finding defensive weaknesses will be up to Wilson and Davis. I see a low scoring game with us pulling away late due to better stars, a cooler head at QB and much smarter coaching.

I think it will be between 8-9.5. It's a good time to bet hard on big red, fellas . . .

Take 'em straight up with odds. Texas is over-rated.

All we need to do is rattle Dolt's little head a couple of times in the first quarter. Get a couple 3-and-outs . . . he'll be toast.

I am looking for this to be Reggie Smith's break-out defensive game, for the record. I'm predicting he'll make at least 2 game-defining plays . . .!!!!!

It would be dreamy to shut them out 35-0 to get OUr scoreboard back and raise questions about Mack Brown in Austin again... but as much as I like this year's competition, I still feel like the Mack Brown of old may be just that.

and I'm still not sold on BV and BJW... shutting out THE STATE'S UNIVERSITY of Tennessee isn't exactly an accomplishment...

I don't disagree with much of what you wrote, except for the final score and I think the coaching comes into play when we are fairly close in talent. I think Texas has the significant edge in talent this year (AD aside) All other things aside, the best players will win.

I think the line play is the difference. To compare OL's...Texas tackle Justin Blalock has more career starts than the entire OU line does combined. And the rest is comparable. OL play is a skill learned as a unit over many games. Yours may have talent but they are not a unit. Big advantage....Texas

Desert Sapper

The fundamentals drills work. Defense is ready to play, fired up, AND is in position to make the tackle, AND actually wrap up.

Colt McOsskie (his nick after the game) tosses the rock to Reggie for a pair...of INTs.

Charles/Young/Melton can't find room. 95 Rushing Yards for saxet. Only a single TD on a big play for 52 yards by Charles late in the 3rd.

ENA is unleashed for 265 passing yards with 3 TD (AD, Joe Jon, and Kelly) and 0 INT and 96 Rushing yards with a TD.

Kelly does not have over 100 yards receiving, but he has some clutch catches that keep drives alive and a big TD that swings mo to the good guys.

AD, still miffed about getting pulled early from the MTSU game, explodes all over saxet when they try desperately to stop the pass in the second half. 240 yards (192 in the second half) and a TD.

Reggie finds a lane on a punt return for 86 yards and a TD.

That is the whole point. Playing together over years is what makes an OL a unit. We have one who has played together for three or four years. Yours has played together for 4 games. Do I need to explain it in "Gomer-ese for you to get it? There is no comparison in this aspect of the game.

I guess if you don't understand the phrase, "played together for three years" there is nothing I can do to help you. You might understand it if your coaches hadn't run off the last half dozen lineman you recruited.

But the answer will be evident next Saturday. I sure hope your D used the off week to get its s%&t together or it will be a long day. Damn!, I can't wait. :D

I understand the phrase "played together for three years" quit well thank you. However :texan: can you tell me who he was playing with for three or four years?

Justin Blalock 3 yr starter
Lyle Sendlein 3 year starter
Kasey Studdard 2 year starter + significant time the year before
Tony Hills 50% of the snaps over two years
Cedric Dockery 50% of the snaps last year

The point is there is a cohesion on the line. The new starters always got about half the snaps the year before. And the OL has to work as a unit more than any other area. Individual athletes are good but they do not help a line that has not had a significant number of game time together. They call the blocking schemes, the blitzes, everything at the line as they get set. Guys that have not played together simply cannot do that as well as those who have.

This may not turn the game but it is a huge difference in your OL and ours and why we may be able to run the ball and protect Colt in the pass. My prediction is the OL and DL will be the deciding factors in this game, which I still think will be close.
