For the Week of September 25, 2006

SOONERS DOMINATE CORNHUSKERS
OKLAHOMA HOSTS UNLV THIS WEEKEND

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (2-0-0) hosts the Skatin’ Rebels from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (1-1-0) for a pair of games this weekend. The upcoming games will mark the first time that OU and UNLV have met on the ice. Friday’s contest will begin at 7:30 P.M. and face-off on Saturday will be at 8:30 P.M. All Sooners home games are played at Blazers Ice Centre, 8000 South I-35, in Oklahoma City.

LAST WEEK’S OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma swept an overmatched squad from Nebraska last weekend. The Sooners received four goals from Kevin Kennedy and three goals from Adrian Borchgrevink on their way to a 16-2 win over the Huskers Friday night. During a special Saturday matinee contest, Borchgrevink lit the lamp five more times as OU crushed Nebraska 13-1. Seventeen different Sooners scored goals over the weekend and 25 players recorded points during the games.

RANKINGS – The 2006-2007 pre-season ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking was released this morning and the Sooners found themselves right where they ended last season at 11th in the nation. Six future OU opponents also made it into the pre-season ranking: Penn State (2nd), Lindenwood (5th), Iowa State (6th), Arizona State (8th), Weber State (10th) and Arizona (12th). Another OU opponent, Minot State, received ranking votes but not enough to land in the Top 20. The next ACHA D1 ranking is scheduled to be released Friday, October 6th.

SCOUTING THE REBELS – UNLV competes in ACHA’s Division 2 West Region and finished last season ranked 13th in the ACHA D2 West. The Rebels opened their season this past weekend at home against Arizona State’s D2 club, winning the first game 5-1 but losing 5-2 the next night. UNLV is led by forwards Aaron Baca and Daniel Kaminski, defenseman Ryan Krametbauer and goaltender Christopher Tate.

SOONERS HOME GAMES ON THE AIR – All 2006-2007 OU Hockey home games will be broadcast over the internet this season. Caleb Fox, a senior from Rowlett, Texas, returns to call his second season of play-by-play action for the Sooners. Color commentator Keaton Fuchs, a senior from Norman, also returns to bring you another year of hard-hitting, fast-paced Sooners Hockey action over the internet throughout the season.
