Oh yeah, those words are edited now, aren't they?

Anyway, I'm looking for a suggestion here: what's the best way to hook a laptop to a tv? Not a computer monitor, an actual tv. The laptop has an s-video out, but the tv is old enough that it doesn't have an s-video in. The best I can figure is to get a cable that runs from s-video to rca plugs and then fiddle with the laptop until it will recognize the tv as a second monitor. Anyone have a solution better than that?

the pic quality will be really bad.

but thats the only way I can think of, if you don't have a DVI, or HDMI port.

I was pretty much expecting that. And no, the only other options on the laptop are a serial port, a PCMCIA card-based solution, or a USB-based solution. I can't find anything made for that purpose that doesn't combine a horrible picture with a $100 price tag, so I'm thinking a $20 cable is probably the best bet.

we have a friend who watches tv on her computer, but she's tired of staring at the computer screen and wants to hook it up to her tv.

...why she doesn't just watch tv on TV, i have no idea.

You can use one of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/DYNEX-WS-007-A-V-RF-MODULATOR-WITH-S-VIDEO-INPUT_W0QQitemZ260033430123QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6139 5QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

Basically you hook the S-video cable to this box and also use a cable to connect the headphone jack on the laptop to the RCA inputs on the box for audio. It will convert this to a coax input on a TV. I use one (not this specific one but another that works just like it) in my bedroom and it works well.

duct-tape and bailin' wire, some aluminum foil around the antenna...that should do the trick.

I've been thinking that I should try hooking it up to my new HDTV (which came with a VGA port)

Heh. I think she doesn't just watch tv on tv so she doesn't have to pay for cable AND the shows she's watching over the internet are all from Taiwan anyway.

The problem is not on the computer/laptop end. The problem is the CRT technology in standard TV's. No matter what kind of cable/converter/hybrid thingy majig you come up with a conventional TV is only good til about 800x600. It is going to look awful plus you probably will have a hard time reading text.

No. And I bet it would look killer on a 37 foot tv. I am really missing out. :texan:
