Um - if you allow this crap to happen by supporting the product then you deserve what you get. I won't ever use WMP11 if I can help it.

I use WinAmp whenever possible & try to stay with the earliest version. I think I'm using 2.7 or something.

I like WMP10. I like the way it organizes your mp3 tags. It's like itunes but good.

I use Elecard MPEG Player. To the best of my knowledge, it's harmless. Somebody please tell me if it isn't.

Agreed. If I thought I wanted to figure out how to get my wife's laptop to print (since the printer is hooked to my desktop), I'd switch. But I don't think I want to go through all that.

When I went through Orientation at TU we all got a CD of Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/), I never got around to messing with it, becuase I had my Mac, but now I might d/l it and mess around. Only thing I'm worried about is all the drivers for all my crap.

The new Itunes 7.0 is pretty cool. I definitely prefer Itunes over WMP.

Speaking of, I have no idea what that article was saying or what the problem is. I stopped reading around the 1st paragraph.

I figure I can move around pretty good, I just think it might be hard to get it to share a printer and have a Windows machine still print to it. I'm actually wanting to try mythtv, because right now I'm using a command line utility with a schedular to record the games. It sucks. The only thing holding me back right now is I worry about the printer thing and her printing from her laptop is pretty important.

I know its possible. Our printers at work are attached to linux printer-servers. I print to em with my windows laptop. I have no idea how they configure those servers though. But I imagine it ain't too tough.

I've spent 3 or 4 hours trying to get Ubuntu set up today. It's not going so well. Now I can go about 5 minutes until the machine totally locks up. I've tried installing about 5 things that won't install because the download site is down. It didn't start locking up until I installed the gforce drivers.

never tried ubuntu...I've really liked mandrake though...

don't know anything about gforce drivers. I'm assuming its a video card. sometimes those can be problematic. not all companies make linux drivers for their hardware and sometimes/often the OSS drivers made by third parties aren't the best.....

seriously, I wish companies would open source their drivers. it would be best for them.

It's nvidia drivers. It could be that my video card is about to go out. i've noticed in Windows that I keep getting a little blackout (the monitor swiches off for a second) then it comes back every once in a while. Maybe windows can handle that and linux can't. Although when the generic drivers were running it never locked up. I dunno. it's driving me crazy. I may try to reinstall or something.
