Why is there even a need to have conference affiliated officials? Why not just have "NCAA football" officials and leave it at that? The NCAA could assign officials on a purely random basis weekly, monthly, or by the season.
I'm not one of the many who believe that this past weekend's cluster was anything more than gross incompetence (as opposed to cheating), but it would help address the appearance of impropriety.
