So my dad's company got bought by an OKC area company and he and my mother are going to be moving down there sometime within the next 6-12 months.

My living experience in the OKC Metro area was limited to Norman and the company's office is on Britton by the Broadway Extension so my parents don't want to live in Norman.

So...what are some nice neighborhoods up in NW OKC & Edmond. My parents are mid-50's so they want somewhere quiet and be like old people.

Any comments/suggestions, even smartass ones, are welcomed.

there are some really nice, quiet neighborhoods out east of I-35 like on 122nd and/or hefner. there is a lot of new construction going on out there, but still quiet and you can see the stars :)

Last fall, I spent my Katrina exile in an area called Briarcreek, east of Rockwell, between Britton and Hefner. I loved the neighborhood, and it didn't seem expensive; the house we were in eventually sold for about $160K or $170K. My brother lives just north of 122nd between Rockwell & MacArthur. I'd move to either place tomorrow if I could. I noticed lots of nice subdivisions in the area west of MacArthur and north of Britton Rd. and near PC North HS. Some seemed modestly priced, other, I dunno.

Really depends on how much dough your parents want to spend. They can find a plethora of affordable housing in Edmond (2 miles north of Britton Road) in nice neighborhoods with very good schools (as though they care).

NW OKC is spotty these days. I would just drive through prospective neighborhoods and get a feel. The further out, the better and newer it gets. Deer Creek is even north of Edmond (and a little west) but offers 1 acre lots or more if that is what they want.

Check out http://www.openhouseok.com
to get a better feel.

In all else fails, tell the old man to sack up and move to the motherland a/k/a Norman.

You're just asking for trouble.

What do I know, I live in Norman. The rest of the state is just a feeder organization of cities, except Tulsa, they are really Missourians.

I know the company that your dad works for and the company that bought them. It just so happens that a good friend of mine works at the Tulsa company as well. I worked for the OKC company for 5 years. I'm not 100% sure he will want to go work there. There are jobs to be had in Tulsa. Contact me, and we can see what we can arrange. Or if he is moving for sure, I can give you some good ideas of Edmond neighborhoods, prices, house quality and commuting time to the new job.
