SOONERS WEEKLY
For the Week of September 18, 2006

2006-07 REGULAR SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEKEND
NEBRASKA COMES TO TOWN TO PLAY OKLAHOMA

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (0-0-0) starts off the 2006-2007 regular season with a pair of games against the Cornhuskers from the University of Nebraska (0-1-0). This weekend’s games will be the first time that the traditional Big XII rivals have met on the ice.

LAST OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma has not played since last March when they finished the 2005-2006 season with a thrilling 6-5 overtime win against the University of Arizona at the ACHA National Championship Tournament in West Chester, PA.

RANKINGS – The Sooners were ranked 11th in the nation in the final 2005-2006 ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking. The 2006-2007 pre-season ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking will be released this Friday.

PREVIEWING THE SOONERS – Oklahoma returns 22 players from last season’s squad that went 20-12-2 and finished 11th in the nation. The Sooners’ 31-man roster is well balanced as it is comprised of seven seniors, eight juniors, eight sophomores and eight freshmen. The OU Hockey roster is also well-rounded geographically as six players hail from Oklahoma, seven from Texas, four from Arizona and three from both Alaska and Illinois. Indiana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, California, Michigan and Minnesota have individual representatives on the OU Hockey roster as does the Canadian province of Alberta.

SCOUTING THE CORNHUSKERS – Nebraska competes in ACHA’s Division 2 Central Region. The ’Huskers played this past weekend at home against Dordt College (IA) and lost to the Blades by a score of 9-3. Nebraska is led by senior forward Dan Dushinske and his brother, junior forward Paul Dushinske, as well as junior forwards Zach Dettmer and Robert Fanciullo and junior defenseman Van Hough.

SATURDAY GAME TIME – Due to the 6:00 P.M. kickoff for the OU football game against Middle Tennessee State, Saturday’s game against Nebraska will begin at 2:30 P.M. OU Hockey games traditionally take 2 to 2 ˝ hours to complete, which means you will have plenty of time to take in some OU Hockey action before heading down to Norman to watch the Sooners on the football field. All Sooners home games are played at Blazers Ice Centre, 8000 South I-35, in Oklahoma City.

SOONERS HOME GAMES ON THE AIR – All 2006-2007 OU Hockey home games will be broadcast over the internet this season. Caleb Fox, a senior from Rowlett, Texas, returns to call his second season of play-by-play action for the Sooners. Color commentator Keaton Fuchs, a senior from Norman, also returns to bring you another year of hard-hitting, fast-paced Sooners Hockey action over the internet throughout the season. OU Hockey broadcasts begin 15 minutes prior to face-off. Fans can listen to the OU Hockey internet broadcast by going to either www.icehockey.ou.edu or www.ouhockey.com and clicking the BROADCAST link.
