State's witness in Elks Lodge probe beaten
CHICKASHA, Okla. Prosecutors are accusing a man of beating a potential state's witness in an illegal gambling probe in Chickasha involving several law enforcement officers.
John Moddrell was arrested yesterday after a beating that left a man with a broken jaw. District Attorney Bret Burns did not provide the victim's name, saying he may be in further danger. Moddrell faces a felony accusation that he tried to intimidate a state's witness.
Moddrell is being held in jail with bail set at 10-thousand dollars.
Moddrell's father helps manage the Elks Lodge where several gambling machines were seized last week in a raid that culminated a yearlong investigation.
