I miss the Thursday night drunks.

Actually, I'd normally be out tonight, but I haven't been home except to sleep all week. Spent Sunday-Tuesday tutoring a girl in Calc I. Seeing that she needed tutoring this early in the semester, I think she's in a lot of trouble.

Spent Wednesday helping a buddy hook up his new home theater.

Felt really good to get a night to myself, ya know?

Was the girl hot? I remember helping several hot chicks through their math classes in high school...

She's definitely good looking, though not really my type.

Plus, the fact that she was having a really hard time understanding the following concepts made me a little leery of any hookup potential there:

1. Averages.
2. Subtraction of fractions.
3. Absolute values.

I refuse to take any responsiblity for her having trouble with these things, as someone in a Calculus class should already have them pretty much down pat.

I ended up spending most of the first FOUR HOUR session reviewing those things and making sure she was really solid on them.

Oh, yeah, and that x^0 is not 0. She just couldn't wrap her head around that.

This is really mean of me. She's a very nice girl.

One of them was like that for me. Basketball player chick. Cute, though.

What's been amazing to me is that I actually remember the product rule and quotient rule.

I haven't taken a math class in over 10 years and Calc I was 15 years ago.

you know, x^0=1 still seems pretty dumb to me...but it didn't take me long to memorize it

damn...i took calc 2 my senior year of high school (holy crap, that was 4 years ago  ) and I don't remember that stuff. a year before that i got a 5 on the AP Calc test and i barely remember having learned those rules.

Easiest way to remember it is that an exponent expressed as ax^b means that you multiply a by x b times.

If a=1, and b=0, then you multiply 1 by x 0 times-or not at all. Which leaves 1.

I think Engine I used them quite a bit, so I got a big refresher later on in college.

7>0, 6<10, 13>11, 1/2 + 1/2 = 1, 2+2=4, 2x2=4, but 2-2 does not =4 it = 0.

I'm smart.
