Saw your reference to the Denco Darlin' receipe in the "demise of O'Connell's" thread. Courtesy of landsooner.
First, cook up a batch of chili mac and make sure you double (at a minimum) the amount of cooking oil you put in the pot to brown the meat
Second, fry up a couple of eggs
Third, have some Green Goddess dressing on hand to "dress" the concoction after spooning it all on the plate
Fourth, stick some no-name tortilla chips in the oven for a couple of minutes to bring out the greasiness in them and then crunch them up over the entire mixture
Fifth, slide the fried eggs over the top of the whole mess (don't discard the oil you used to cook the eggs ... pour it over the entire mixture because the more oil you use, the more authentic it becomes)
If you really want to get authentic, make a basic side salad and eat it with the Green Goddess dressing before digging into the darlin' and go by one of the low-end steakhouses (e.g. Western Sizzling, Bonanza, etc) and get them to give you one of those black steak plates that have the aluminum inserts and use it for the darlin'. You might also want to see if you can convince your wife to take on the persona of a cranky old waitress named "Pat" to serve you and try to find a half-bent, chain-smoking cook who's left eye is half-closed to stand around your kitchen while you're cooking
Oh, and get some old Glenn Miller tunes for the jukebox in your den and play them all while this little scenario is taking place ...
