since getting the Nintendo DS for my son, I'm halfway interested in possibly picking a wii up. I wonder if it can play DS games too? Couldn't the gamecube play GBA games?

This part right here does sound cool:

While Nintendo is certainly counting on the success of top-tier games sold at retail, many gamers may be at least as excited by the Wii's Virtual Console, which will allow players to download versions of older Nintendo games from the Internet.

Nintendo plans to announce today that about 30 classic games will be available for download when the Wii is released, including ones from the "Zelda," "Mario" and "Donkey Kong" franchises. Downloadable games will cost about $5 to $10.

How exactly does one play SMB with that weird controller they have?

I'll be interested to get your opinion when you get it. I'm leaning toward the PS3 mainly because of its blue-ray capability.

PS3 is a myth....its like Sasquatch and the Easter Bunny. Let the dream die.

Pardon me but Sasquatch is not a myth. He can occasionally be found in this forum.

The alternative "normal" controller:

After looking into it ... it only supports 480p? BLASPHEMY! I need to find some more stupid info. On wikipedia it looked like it accepts DVDs but I coudlnt' tell if it plays DVD movies. I also saw that it's supposed to have Opera on it. Also it can download NintendoDS demos and you can use your DS to get them from the Wii just like at the game stores. $250 seems a little too much for this level of functionality though. Well, that's unless the games are uber fun.

Won't play DVD's at last report (now that HD-DVD & Blu-Ray are coming). Their philosophy has always been "we sell game units, not movie player/game unit combos".

Im with you on that...the 360 controller is the best console controller I have had my hands on. The PS2 seemed just a tad too small. I am really anxious to see the WII....I was thinking about getting one before I bought the 360, but the new controller kinda pushed me away...Im an old man, I dont want to stand up and swing a controller to hit a golf ball, or baseball..well maybe for about an hour.

Personally, I think Sony might be screwing the pooch on the PS3. Time will tell.

I know they made smaller ones, but the buttons still hurt my fingers.

Flip it horizontal to where the control pad at the top is on the left side, and see where the two buttons at the bottom end up. It's an NES controller!
