WTF, indeed. That's why I took the photos. This Okie had never seen anything like it.

Come to find out, it is a Gasteracantha cancriformis.

I was about to guess that.

These spiders can bite, but they are not of much harm to humans. Humans can be bothered by the species' spines, which may cause a puncture in skin if touched in the wrong place. So, although they eat insects in orchards, which is beneficial, they become a pest during harvest time. (Muma and Stone, 1971)

Our neighbor's 17-year old daughter was almost in our front yard tonight cussing us out for calling the cops because their Pit Bull puppies broke through the fence and into our yard.

Which made it our fault that she had to leave her one week baby inside to come out and yell at us.

Did I mention they're all sub-white trailer trash?

Under which one of your six vehicle-on-cinder-blocks did you find that spider in your front yard?

You'dda thunk one of your 14 hound dogs woulda ated him well before you could run a mile to your neighbor's house to borrow a camera to snap this picture.

Or the cow wouldda come out of your house to eat this sucker.

They're tadpole shrimp, or Triops, and they're the new Sea Monkeys. My brother found these in some puddles in the desert, because of all the rain they've had lately.

Looks rather like a crab, hence its latin name Gasteracantha cancriformis (I guess.)

You know, like the zodiac-y "Cancer the Crab."

Thanks for the compliment. These little buggers have been pretty tough to capture. Even a little breeze and their tiny webs start shaking back and forth, so focusing is a *****.

There's a really big spider I'm dying to take a picture of, but he's way up under the awning at the top of the second story. But if PG asks nicely, I may go get a ladder out. ;)

Believe it or not, there are some things I don't eat. And, fried spider is one of them.

Wasn't it Thailand that Survivor had the eat the spider gross food challenge?

Anyway, I've never seen it in any market that I've been to in Thailand. And, I've been to many provincial markets.
