Hornets G Chris Paul has signed on as an official spokesperson for Toyota’s “NBA-related activities,” according to Barry Janoff of BRANDWEEK. Paul has represented the auto company, which is in its third year as an NBA sponsor, at events such as the ‘06 All-Star Game, the NBA Draft, and in a “Moving Forward” spot in which he “drove around in a Toyota in his hometown” of Winston-Salem. Paul has a deal with Nike and a regional pact with Chesapeake Energy in Oklahoma, but is “being groomed slowly by his reps.” Octagon Senior Marketing Officer Tom George: “We’re not logo collecting with Chris” (BRANDWEEK, 9/11 issue).
