Polls, schmolls - prolly filled out by a staffer or the AD for the coaches who trolled through the channels or watched Sportscenter, saw us tied at halftime or listened to their "experts" talk about how crappy we are and filled it out.

More surprising to me is that saxeT dropped all the way to 8, I was thinking maybe 5 or 6.

SoonerBlonde87

That is a bunch of BS if you ask me. I mean come on. How the heck is Texas 1-1 and they are still ranked #8. They should be the ones that aren't even in the Top 10. I hate football polls.. I hate it.... Especially when everyone picks on the sooners

Actually, I agree that the polls are full of poo (on many levels), and you shouldn't be dropped for a win unless it's a one point 3-OT nailbiter to a 1-AA squad. but I'm also surprised when teams drop really far after losing to "the better team." Isn't that what is expected? I think it gets back to the voters not really knowing what goes on just looking at scores or surfing TV quickly (sometimes agendas play a part, too).

florida state still in the top 10 is retarded. i'd have to say, though, that us only dropping to 11th is a little bit generous. come on, guys, i know all of you had to be watching the same game i was yesterday. if we play all four quarters against oregon like we played the 3rd quarter against UW, we'll be fine. if we don't, we're gonna be in for a long game. i am pleased that we almost did what i hoped we would. i told my friend the other day that we really need to score 40 or more in this game. with the way we played in the first half, 37 is good enough for me

bri
9/10/2006, 02:16 PM
When Warshington tacked on that garbage TD at the end of the game, I thought "Well, THAT'LL drop us a couple more spots."

God only knows what'll happen if we actually LOSE a game. They'll probably order us to disband the program. :D

Snrfn4ever08
9/10/2006, 02:26 PM
did the line on this game drop to 16.5 or did it stay at 17? if it was at 17, there had to be a lotta ****ed off people when UW scored that last touchdown

And that's why I HATE gambling on sports. That's where this whole concept of "not winning gooder enough" stems from; just because some sleaze in the back room of a casino says you should win by "X" amount of points doesn't mean that winning by less isn't good enough. A win is a win, and I don't give a damn if some ********* loses money because we didn't cover some bullsh*t line.

It does. And it leads to dropping in the polls after a win, because a bunch of addicts lost their daughters' lunch money on a meaningless touchdown late in a game that's already been decided.

It's like auto makers' stock prices going down because of drunk drivers. Don't blame us because you have a problem.

We beat Oregon, we'll be fine.

I appreciate this sentiment, and it's true that all we can do is all we can do: win out. But the sad truth is that, with Texas' loss, that we could possibly end up the 2004 Auburn of the 2006 season because we got bent over by the big BONAR.

All of the other major BCS conferenced are positioned with strength in front of the Big XII. If even 2 of those teams go undefeated, we will have been completely screwed even if we win out.

We need the Big XII North to show up this year, starting with the huskers this week at USC.

There's a lot of ground to cover between here and there . . . but the sad truth is that the idiot really bomed us in the collective butt.

Let's not get carried away. A B12 championship and BCS bowl berth would be very good for this team. Based on the way we've played thus far, do you really think we may be the undefeated odd-man-out like Auburn was?

No. I don't think we're in that league this year. But as long as we remain undefeated, I do enjoy the thought that if we DID win out, that we would get to play for some crystal. BONAR has gotten in the way of that fantasy. At this point, that's all I'm saying.

I'm not saying it's a likelihood that we'll be the Auburn of 2006. I'm just saying that we COULD be because of the big BONAR.

As long as we keep winning, these things will sort themselves out. Everyone likes to think there'll be multiple undefeated teams due to all the mid-major darlings (and West Virginia) that have talent and gimmie schedules. But those guys won't be a factor, because those teams everyone on ESPN are talking about right now are the same teams they talk about EVERY year: "Oh, they're as talented as anyone" "Oh, they have the schedule to make a run at it" and then they lose one or two games to those "nobodies" they were supposed to steamroll. Some WAC team will beat Bosie State. Some spare Big East squad will jump up and get West Virginia.

Every fanbase in America needs to realize something right now just to save a lot of disappointment and anguish:

If tOSU and Notre Dame are both undefeated at the end of the regular season...that's the title game.

Regardless of an undefeated Big XII (OU) or SEC champ (Auburn, LSU) or Big East champ (Lousiville, WV).

I'm not saying I think OU (or any team really) will go undefeated in '06...but if the Irish and the Buckeyes do...there's your matchup in Glendale.

But that's a long way off...

I don't really care about anything except Oregon right now...

Once again, I never said the sky is falling. You have to agree it's the first time since 2000 that we've not been in a position where we control our own destiny.

And that is IDIOT's fault.

Octavian makes a good point about OSU and Notre Dame, though. Would have been tough for the pollsters to avoid matching those two up if they were undefeated . . .

It's all silly, I admit. Let's destroy the ducks and go from there!!!!

BCS Extends Deal With Harris to Conduct Poll
Harris Poll Will Be Used Through the 2010 BCS Bowls
AP Sports
NEW YORK (Aug. 24) - The Bowl Championship Series agreed to a four-year contract extension with Harris Interactive, the company that coordinated the polls used last year to replace The Associated Press Top 25 in the BCS standings.

The Harris Interactive College Football Poll debuted last season after The Associated Press asked the BCS to no longer include its media poll in the formula used to determine which teams play for the national championship.

The Harris poll is voted on by a panel of former college football players, coaches and administrators, plus some media members.

The rest of the components of the BCS formula will be the USA Today coaches' poll and six computer standings - Jeff Sagarin, Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey and Dr. Peter Wolfe.

"The BCS was pleased with how the Harris Interactive College Football Poll was structured and delivered last season," BCS coordinator and Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive said. "Harris Interactive's approach to the coordination of the poll and desire for integrity in the process warranted this extension."

but OU still didn't register in their top 25. how good a poll is that??
