Fortunately for Oregon, the Fresno State defenders are as brain dead as Leon Lett. A blocked field goal should be left alone. Giving it back to the kicking team is probably not in the best interest of the defenders.

Oregon is just looking ahead to us. Don't worry, it will be "Game of their Life Day" in Eugene next week.

Yeah, Fresno screwed that pooch, and Oregon capitalized on the gift.

i think oregon's overrated. if we were playing anywhere other than autzen, i'd call this a lock (assuming we continue our steady improvement starting at halftime today). the fact that it's in autzen really kinda scares me just a wee little bit though. i've not heard anything good about that place from an opposing team's perspective.

Autzen will be good preparation for going to the Dallas and College Station this yr.

For the record, Fresno St. is not a bunch of slouches. I like their coach too.

Is playing at Fresno THAT tough? I mean, talk about underwhelming, this is definitely underwhelming. 24-24.

But are they stacking 9 at the line? You gotta figure they do the same thing to us that Washington did or AD will have a field day given their performance thus far against Fresno.

I like that Oregon can be run on. Watch the game and imagine Fresnos RB is AD. The O-line might be better, but I'm salivating.

24-24 with 10:57 left in the 4th...Fresno State could still beat Oregon.

Couple random observations:

1) Most of Oregon's inumerable uniform combinations are _so_ fugly that, tonight's uniforms (green pants, white shirt, green helmet with yellow "O") manage to look almost good by comparison.

2) For others like me who grew up watching college football in the 1970s and 1980s, isn't it incredible that both Fresno State and Oregon are relatively serious football programs?

And I don't think that's a bad thing.

GreenSooner
9/10/2006, 12:29 AM
I said relatively serious. What I meant was that it's actually possible for either of these teams to reach a BCS bowl one of these years. Arguably before the Holiday Bowl, Oregon was the team with the most legitimate BCS beef last year. And Fresno State has been attempting for several years to be the Gonzaga of D I-A football.

When I was a kid, all of that would have been unimaginable.

Or was it??? Does he have so little confidence in his D that he doesn't think a FG will be enough to put mighty Fresno down?

He might also lack confidence in his kicking game, given the earlier blocked field goal.

Still, you got lemons, you make lemonade. A good call in any case.

Wonder what hideous combination of yellow and green the Duck's will don next week. I'd need laser eye surgery after spending three or four hours watching eleven guys dressed like this (http://www.tickets.cc/ncaa/football/images/oregon_ducks.jpg) getting the stuffing kicked out of them by the Sooners.

SCOUT

I would prefer the Ducks to win by a narrow margin. The national idiots will say how great they are because they beat the mighty Fresno State. When we defeat them they will be ranked in the 14-16 range. Their victory is good for us if we can take care of business.

On a side note, why is GreenSooner so far in the red? Is the Green Oregon based, environmentally based? I checked the past 15 posts or so and didn't see anything decisive. Just curious...

I'd actually love to know the answer to that question, too.

I mainly lurk. And when I post I tend to be pretty non-controversial (though I did once post a negative comment about our offense during a game in which our offense wasn't producing last year...you'll see the comment on my page). I honestly have no idea what I ever did that earned all the negative attention.

The Green in my name is, in fact, political, not Oregonian (I have no Oregon connection). FWIW, I am an Oakland A's fan (and post as GreenNGoldSooner on AthleticsNation).

SoonerGOP

INT on the two yard line. 31-24 for Oregon. This is really good for us because it makes them a higher ranked team than what we otherwise would have faced. I'm glad they won and really am glad Fresno was able to play them so tough. I think it bodes well for us.

I'm sure they will have their game on next week, but you have to think they are having some doubts about their game as much as we would if not more since we at least played a great second half and theirs was tight to the very end.

Well then, you have answered my question. Somewhere in the 14 posts I didn't go back to you had a negative comment about our offense. That, in and of itself, isn't a problem. Throw in the gameday dynamic and you are asking for trouble.

I knew there had to be an explanation because you seemed WAY too rational to share company with those who have a full red (burnt orange) bar of spek.

I have done my part to get you back to green. Perhaps others will read your explanation and follow suit.

With all that said, I am pretty conservative so I am going to have to overlook the fact that your Green moniker is politcal.

Lesson learned about game threads (the hard way, unfortunately)!

Thanks for the compliments and the mojo, SCOUT.

As for politics, if I couldn't overlook fellow Sooners' politics there wouldn't be many folks I'd get along with. But one of the wonderful things about sports in general is that it's one of the few things in our culture that can truly transcend politics. :)

Those were the days ;)

That is actually why I made as descriptive a post as I did. It seemed odd to me that someone who seemed so rational was so far in the negative column. It is possible we have someone who was hit when the hammers were huge and has recovered when they were small.
