I've wanted one for a while & finally broke down & got one last night. I really wanted the Philips 160 gig but couldn't find one. I recorded the game today to the HD, edited out the commercials, & burned it to disk. Wow, too easy.

It does all the stuff a TiVo does but without the monthly cost. The only drawback is that if you want to record one show & watch another you'd have to have two satellite or cable receivers. I think I'll bring my 2nd receiver out on the next job. :D

I highly recommend it. The ability to erase commercials is the ****niz.

Why not just record the show to your cable DVR, watch something else, then burn to your DVD player later?

'Cause I'm in a trailer down by the rig. ;)

Actually I looked into getting a TiVo & DVD burner for work but to I'd have to burn the DVD from the TiVo in real time. This little hummer burns it as a file & only took about 10 minutes. Besides, I can edit out the commercials so I can have a higher quality file.

Yep. But you'd need two cable boxes for it to work like a Tivo...ie watching one show/recording another.

I got the HD DVR from cox just over a week ago, lovin it so far. i can watch one thing and record another. It's about $12/month from cox.

not sure how big the hard drive is though, I already have it about 50% full. But that includes 2 games (one in HD), a couple of HD movies, and lots of other sitcom stuff. Need to delete or transfer some of it I guess.

I think "HD" in this context refers to the hard drive.
