Four decades ago today, Gene Rodenberry launched Captain Kirk and the Enterprise into the stars in the first episode of the first season of TOS (we wont recognize the ill-fated pilot episode w/ Cpt. Pike :0 )

You've brought countless hours of enjoyment into the lives of millions of dorks all over the world and for that, thank you.

Happy 40th Birthday, Star Trek...now make a series worth watching again please...

Did you guys know they are remastering the old episodes and playing them in HD in the near future? I hear they are redoing all the space scenes with cgi. Also, TVLand (I think) bought the rights to broadcast them. They were having some sort of marathon earlier today.

!!!!

Unlike Star Wars, TOS visuals don't have any redeeming nostalgic value, and I would loooove to see a lot of the stuff redone.

Edit: Check it yo:

• Space ship exteriors — The space ship Enterprise, as well as other
Starships, will be replaced with state of the art CGI-created ships. The
new computer-generated Enterprise is based on the exact measurements of
the original model, which now rests in the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, D.C.
• Show opening — The Enterprise and planets seen in the main title
sequence will be redone, giving them depth and dimension for the first
time.
• Galaxy shots — All the graphics of the galaxy, so frequently seen
through the window on the Enterprise’s bridge, will be redone.
• Exteriors — The battle scenes, planets and ships from other cultures
(notably the Romulan Bird of Prey and Klingon Battle Cruisers) will be
updated.
