Nationwide Caravan Will 'Spread the Love' With Shopping Mall Appearances, Basketball Instruction for High School Teams, and More

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Steve & Barry's and NBA star Stephon Marbury announced today they will be hitting the road September 9th with the nationwide "Starbury Movement Tour," a 24-city, 20-day caravan to "spread the love among those kids and parents who want to join the Starbury Movement," according to Marbury. The Starbury Movement was sparked by the unprecedented success of the Starbury Collection, a 50-item line of high quality, extraordinarily low-priced clothes and sneakers launched by Steve & Barry's and Marbury last month. It includes the $14.98 Starbury One high performance basketball shoe that Marbury will be wearing on-court during NBA games beginning this season.

Beginning Saturday, September 9th, with two stops at Steve & Barry's locations in Cincinnati, Ohio, Marbury will tour the country through Thursday, September 28th. In most cities, Marbury will conduct in-store autograph signings, work out at local gyms with high school basketball teams, and meet with participants of youth programs to teach them about taking responsibility for their actions and to ask for their input to further develop new Starbury Collection sneakers and clothes. The tour is part of Marbury's efforts to reinforce the mission of the Starbury Movement, which is to eliminate the incredible pressure kids and parents feel to spend top dollar on the latest sneakers, clothes and other merchandise that they often cannot afford.

Marbury said, "Steve & Barry's and I want to tell people all over the country that the game is over; being cool isn't about a price tag. Cool is about being a responsible person, taking care of your family, and spreading love to the world in whatever way you can. I'm fortunate to be in a position to try and make that happen, and feel blessed to have the opportunity to carry our message from New York to Los Angeles and so many places in between."

Sold exclusively at Steve & Barry's, the national casual apparel chain with over 140 locations in 32 states, the astonishing value of the Starbury Collection is perhaps best represented by the Starbury One basketball shoe, priced at just $14.98. It has received accolades among consumers, "sneakerheads" and media for delivering the same exact construction and styling as top-end basketball sneakers sold by the nation's other top brands for prices as high as $200.

Steve & Barry's believes the launch of the Starbury One is the most successful sneaker launch in the history of retail. The company virtually sold out its entire first shipment of Starbury One sneakers -- a one-month, national allotment -- in just three days following its August 17th debut, and continues to have lines of up to 300 shoppers in front of some stores nearly every day before they open, including New York City's Manhattan Mall.

In order to make the Starbury Movement Tour possible, several companies have donated goods and services as part of their efforts to join the Starbury Movement. They include the Cafaro Company, a national shopping mall landlord that is home to nine Steve & Barry's locations.

Andy Todd, President of Steve & Barry's, who together with Chief Partnership Office Howard Schacter co-manages the Starbury Collection brand for the company, said: "We are constantly asked how Steve & Barry's is able to offer such high quality products like the Starbury Collection and the Starbury One sneaker at such low prices, and it's because we've found ways to eliminate unnecessary costs in every facet of our business. For example, we primarily use word-of-mouth marketing versus expensive advertising. The Starbury Movement Tour would not be possible without the help of partners like the Cafaro Company. They're helping us defray our travel costs so we can keep our prices low forever."

The Mastermind Group (TMG), which serves as the lead marketing agency for the Starbury Collection and whose principal, Erin Patton, was director of the Jordan Brand at Nike for five years, is producing the Starbury Movement Tour together with The Agency Management. The Agency Management also provides marketing representation to Stephon Marbury and helped create the Starbury Collection with Steve & Barry's after providing other sports marketing services to the retail chain.

It sounds like "Starburst". Are the products fruity and chewy?
