I just saw the trailer for this. It looks like a pretty cool flick. Of course I might just think that because I have an above average interest in World War I History.

Hey, I will be rooting for the Germans in this movie. Also, you see why I do not venture over to the football board that often. It just gets me a riled up for no good reason, and I start making outlandish arguments for the hell of it. I should save that for the politics threads.

Escadrille Americaine (a/k/a escadrille Lafayette). The trailers indicate to me they took some liberties with the facts. I used to teach a course on the period at Leavenworth called "The Evolution of Airpower."

I figured as much, but it looks cool visually, and that counts for a lot in my book in non-comedy movies.

Looks like they stole my idea. I never saw the orig film till after I wrote the treatment. My story was centered around ECC Genet and the guys.

Its prolly going to be a lot like "Pearl Harbor" in that regard. Visually stunning but fast and loose on historical accuracy.

Which is why I get my history from books and only expect entertainment from my movies.

It looks like they decided the aricraft could fly around 160 knots back then, judging from the trailer.

Judging from the size of the explosions, you would think they were firing sidewinders at each other.

Eggggg-zactally!
And unless the fabric rips off the top wing of their Nieuports in a hard dive, I'll know the whole things is 100% bogus.

Were air forces anywhere close to that size in WWI? The sky was filled with planes and zeppelins in one of the shots in the commercial that I saw, and I found it tough to believe that there were ever that many planes in the sky in one battle during WWI.

Ahhh... so I take it you took to the law books while in lockup?

US Army Command & General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth...not the Big House (although there were many similarities);)
