Could you please send the rest of the nation more bands like the Flaming Lips, Jason Boland, and the GAP Band and less bands like Hinder.

Thanks,
Royalfan5

I was going include them with Hinder, but I didn't want to rub it in.

That's okay, man. Oklahoma City is America's #1 rest stop for vagabond NBA teams who need leverage for a new lease deal in their actual cities. They're chock full of pride and can live with the fact that they churn out sh*tty bands with alarming regularity. ;)

This has got to be OKC vs. Tulsa? He did mention the GAP band in his original post. Sheesh. Someone has a bad case of penis envy.

By the way, I know I'll lose the contest of witty snarkiness, but I just wanted to type "penis envy."

No, it's crappy bands vs. the world. It just so happens that you guys are way ahead of us in THAT category as well. :D

As far as replying to royalfan's request, please check out:

Starlight Mints (http://www.myspace.com/starlightmints), Student Film (http://www.myspace.com/studentfilm), Kunek (http://www.myspace.com/kunek), The Evangelicals (http://www.myspace.com/evangelicals) and Stardeath and White Dwarves (http://www.myspace.com/stardeath) to start with.

In that case, I agree. Of course, you'll also have to agree that we are far ahead of you in the Flaming Lips category.

Yes you are, which raises the interesting question: Which is better, one superstar or lots of depth? ;)

At risk of sounding like Bri, gah.

Heh.

I don't DISLIKE them, but any marginal respect I may have for their efforts to bring back 80's pop-rock is mitigated by the fact that they're aggy. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out the depth angle. I'd think you'd have to have at least ONE good band to have depth.

I think the fact that I didn't include the AAR in my linky post ought to give it credibility, royalfan.

I guess I could always throw out a list of OUR obscure local bands. ;)

I'll definately check it out. In Nebraska, we are pretty much over-run by bands that want to be on Saddle Creek very badly, or want to be Fall-Out Boy, and the Show is the Rainbow.

I remember seeing two Tulsa bands in Manhattan once. One was ripping off the Strokes and the other fancied themselves a 70's hard rock out fit. I don't remember the names of the bands because the bar had 1.50 24 ounce Bud Heavies, and that blurs my recollection of the evening. But the latter band did a sweet cover of The Immigrant Song as per our request.

Actually, a couple of those are Norman bands, and there's a Stillwater band in there. I was looking for a decent Tulsa band, since he was looking for OKLAHOMA bands, but alas, I couldn't find one.

Of course, Zac Malloy does live in Tulsa these days, so I guess you have that. By the way, what currently popular band is the inspiration for his work these days? Is it Linkin Park? Or maybe Evanescence? I lost track back in the 90s after he switched from Pearl Jam to Soundgarden.

And yes, I know he's originally from here.

Wow. Aren't we lucky. I guess the royalties from Sister ran out, and he had to move back in with his parents.

Either that, or the royalties were retroactively awarded to Pearl Jam.

bri

To be fair, despite that being my picture attached to the band - I don't listen to them anymore either. ;)

After losing our piano, bass, and trumpet all at once, not to mention our ongoing difficulties finding a replacement singer, I think you can officially file that band under the heading "defunct". Which is almost as sad a category as "de-funked".
