Adrian Peterson entered the game needing 1,086 yards to surpass Billy Sims as OU's career rushing leader.

He now needs 947 yards after a 139-yard performance against UAB moved him within 946 yards of Sims.

Peterson, who passed Greg Pruitt to move into seventh on the all-time list, would need to average 86 yards per game to surpass Sims during the regular season.

A look at OU's career rushing list through Saturday night:

1. Billy Sims -4,118
2. Joe Washington - 4,071
3. Steve Owens - 4,041
4. Quentin Griffin - 3, 938
5. De'Mond Parker - 3,402
6. Stanley Wilson - 3,198
7. Adrian Peterson - 3,172
8. Greg Pruitt - 3,122

You know when your getting old is when you remember seeing everybody on this list run the ball... Ok, I barely remember Owens but I still remember him when I was a small kid.

It'd be cool if he could do it Norman and we could stop the game to acknowledge it

He needs to average 158 yards a game to pass Billy Simms by Colorado which I would bet he does.

The real question is...

Will AD's Barbeque be better than Billie's? ;)

That would be awesome..BUT..with tech being our last home game of the season, we still have 2 regular season games left and then the big XII championship plus the fiesta bowl, I dont see it happening in norman.

edit: nevermind, i read 158 yards per game to reach the record by the END of the season, not the Colorado game.

he could do it against CU

even if he has some off games, he'll probably make it up on them ;)

I've seen them all...as a adult

IMHO - AD strongest and maybe the fastest....?
(Greg Pruitt could be up there with AD as far as speed...???)

But Billy and Little Joe were a lot more shifty....
Just think what records AD could have IF he wouldn't go Pro....!!!

Peterson is moving his way up OU's all-time rushing record list.

After Saturday's game, Peterson moved past Stanley Wilson for sixth in Sooner history. He needs 781 to pass Billy Sims for first.

A look at OU's career rushing list through Saturday night:

1. Billy Sims -4,118
2. Joe Washington - 4,071
3. Steve Owens - 4,041
4. Quentin Griffin - 3,938
5. De'Mond Parker - 3,402
6. Adrian Peterson - 3,337
7. Stanley Wilson - 3,198
8. Greg Pruitt - 3,122

781 yards to go....

Octavian
9/10/2006, 10:52 PM
Two games into 2006, Adrian is averaging 152 rushing yds/game.

On current pace, he'd finish the regular season w/ 1,824 rushing yards and break Billy Sims record in the eighth game of the year @ Missouri in Columbia (Oct. 28)

Octavian
9/17/2006, 11:19 PM
AD ran for 211.

1. Billy Sims -4,118
2. Joe Washington - 4,071
3. Steve Owens - 4,041
4. Quentin Griffin - 3,938
5. Adrian Peterson - 3,548

...and needs 570 to become OU's all-time leading rusher.

Through 3 games, he's averaging 172 yds/game.

300 this week...
I know you're joking, but if he's in the game long enough to get that many yards against MTSU, we're in serious trouble.

We seriously need to start considering the amount of wear and tear we're putting on him, and get Allen Patrick some carries.

And for the love of all things right in the world, please take him off the kickoff return team. Iglesias is probably a better returner anyways, and Peterson takes enough of the load as it is. The man won't make it through the month of October if we keep playing him this much, especially given his style, which seems to result in a LOT of physical collisions and awkward tackles.

Great point, I guess this is the reason we have had closed practices all fall. Wow, what a secret weapon!

seriously.... i kept getting p*ssed at the horse collar(roy williams) tackles... so those were only outlawed in the pros?? maybe sumone should look into that... all the grabbing above the shoulders, facemask or not if you touch the helmet is should be a penalty i hate seein 28's head getting jerked in different directions when he goes down

Actually, I was only half joking. I'm expecting him to finally break off the big ones this week. He could possibly have 300 yards on 15 carries. :)

And I certainly agree about the kickoffs. I was dumbfounded to see him back there at Oregon. There is no point to having him return kicks.

no joke about taking ad off kickoffs
iglesias was more than capable of returning them (33 avg i think) and on our last drive torwards the endzone you could tell peterson was gassed

he gave up on that long run!

Yeah, I gotta say that a fresh AD scores on that play. He was definitely huffin' and puffin'.

I know that AD is a workhorse, and I know that he's our best player, but I really do think that we're overextending him too much. Patrick is a very solid backup.

I think Peterson would be a lot more effective in the second half if we used Patrick a little bit more in the first half to help wear the defense down. I'm all for giving AD the ball on the money downs and with the game on the line, but we need to use our HB depth better. Patrick is way too good of a backup to never get in the game.

Octavian

I think Peterson would be a lot more effective in the second half if we...

Adrian ran for over 150 yards in the fourth quarter.

The only thing running Adrian less in the first half would accomplish is exhausting our punter's leg.

Anyways, if we wanna think of new ways to make Adrian less effective, let's start a new thread...this one's about his historical chase for the rushing record.

TIA.

How many yards did AD have in the first half? I doubt that the offense would have been a whole lot worse off in the first half if AD gets spelled for a play or two every now and again in the first half.

He ran for 150 yards in the second half because the OL finally started opening holes, and Oregon finally started respecting our passing game. He wouldn't have run for any fewer yards in the second half had Patrick gotten 3 or 4 carries in the first half, and Iglesias been returning kicks. He probably would have run for more yards, because he wouldn't have been as winded.

2. Joe Washington - 4,071
3. Steve Owens - 4,041

You say that like you have a problem with that.

They'll get their points, but we'd get hella lot more.

OU 94
Texas 14

Stoops calls off the dogs with .005 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The entire second team goes out on the field to take the final snap but the clock runs out of time before everyone can get to the line of scrimmage.

But enough about them. I hope he breaks it soon.
